Nothing serious. Defence budget increased by 400 million dollar compared to last year.But this is routine increase. Actually our defence budget as a percentage of total budget or GDP has not increased at all in the last 10 years, rather deceased somewhat.

Taka 87,620 crore($10.4 billion) budget for education

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today (Thursday) proposed an allocation of Taka 87,620 crore for education and training in the national budget for 2019-20 fiscal.
“It is worth mentioning here that currently 28 ministries and divisions are implementing programs related to education and training. The allocation for this purpose in FY 2019-20 is Tk. 87,620 crore, which is 3.04 percent of GDP and 16.75 percent of total budget allocations,” he said while placing the national budget for 2019-20 fiscal in the Jatiya Sangsad this afternoon.
He said with the aim of creating skilled human resource, targets have been set for the overall improvement of education, reducing discrimination in education, achieving quality, excellence, and expansion of education.
Kamal said the MPO (Monthly Pay Order) enlistment in the Ministry of Education has remained suspended for a long time.
Upon request from the Ministry of Education and under the special directive of the Prime Minister, necessary funds have been earmarked in the budget for this year for enlistment of new schools in the MPO list, he said.
The finance minister proposed to allocate a total of Tk. 24,040 crore for the primary education sector, which was Tk. 20,521 crore in the budget for current FY2018-19.
The minister also proposed to allocate a total of Tk. 29,624 crore for the secondary and higher education sector, which was Tk. 25,866 crore in the current fiscal year.
He said steps have been taken to construct 48,947 multimedia classrooms, 200 language-cum-ICT labs, 1,000 science labs, 2,120 smart classrooms and 46 hostels, and supply of furniture, office materials and ICT equipment in 26,200 educational institutions throughout the country.
ICT training and resource centres have been established in 125 upazilas in the country, and the process for establishing the same in another 160 upazilas is underway, he said.
Kamal proposed to allocate Tk. 7,454 crore in FY 2019-20 for technical and madrasa education, which was Tk. 5,758 crore in FY2018-19.
With a view to establishing one technical school at each upazila to create skilled manpower in Bangladesh, construction of technical schools in 100 upazilas at a cost of Tk. 2, 281.69 crore in the preliminary phase is underway, he said.
The minister said necessary budget has been allocated to develop land survey education in Bangladesh, construct polytechnic institutes in 23 districts, and implement projects to enhance the capacity of 64 technical schools and colleges under the Directorate of Technical Education.
Kamal said the government has taken numerous steps for the development and modernization of madrasa education.
Infrastructures of Madrasas will be developed and multimedia will be set up in classrooms while a total of 1,800 new madrasas are being established in the country, he added.
He said the government has allocated Tk. 9,000 crore in FY 2019-20 for development projects in the secondary and higher education sector, which is 54 percent higher than that in FY 2018-19.

Budget brings more people under social safety net
The Awami League’s manifesto in 2018 said the budget allocation in this sector will be doubled in the next five years.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal proposed Tk 743.67 billion in the sector, which is 14.21 percent of total budget and 2.58 percent of GDP in FY2019-20.
In the revised budget of FY2018-19, the allocation was Tk. 644.04 billion.
The finance minister presented a set of proposals to widen the remit of social safety net programmes in FY2019-20.
Those include state honorarium for the valiant freedom fighters to be increased from Tk 10,000 to Tk 12,000; the number of recipients of adult allowances to be increased from 4 million to 4.4 million; the number of recipients of allowances for widows and victims of domestic violence to be increased to 1.7 million from 1.4 million.
The number of beneficiaries of allowances for all insolvent persons with disabilities will be increased from one million to 1.54 million. The number of recipients of stipends for disabled students will be increased to 100,000 from 90,000.
The rate of stipends to be increased from Tk 700 to Tk 750 for primary students, from Tk 750 to Tk 800 for secondary students, and from Tk 850 to Tk 900 for higher secondary students.
To bring all third gender people under the net, the number of beneficiaries of Third Gender Livelihood Development programmes to be increased to 6,000; additional 20,000 beneficiaries from the gypsies and disadvantaged communities to be included in the current list of 64,000 persons.
The number of beneficiaries of the financial assistance programme for patients suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, paralysed due to stroke and congenital heart diseases will be increased from 15,000 to 30,000.
The number of beneficiaries of livelihood development programmes for tea-garden workers to be increased from 40,000 to 50,000.

Great to see spending on education is targeted at 3% of GDP.

Yes we have.. but they only look after Mosques, Monastary, Hajj and other religion based things. Madrasah fall under education ministry.

I just look into the figures and looks like BD will surpass all south east asian countries except Inodonesia and all middle eastern countries except Saudi within 2/3 years time.
India is the natural home of Hindus... they will continue to pour in NE as long as NE remains under Indian Union. If you are a native North Easterner you should know by now what you need to do to stop the influx...

India is the natural home of Hindus... they will continue to pour in NE as long as NE remains under Indian Union. If you are a native North Easterner you should know by now what you need to do to stop the influx...
It is not just hindu .
But nowhere in Indian constitution, it's stated that India is the natural home for Hindus .
If BD would just take care of their civilians and kept a tab of them like a responsible gov should,the civilians would spread cross border like the uncontrolled pest .

Yes, we have ministry of religious affairs. But they do not control Madrasa education. Their tasks mainly consists of building Mosque and other Islamic institutes, training Imams, managing Hajj, building religious structures for minority religious communities etc. Madrasa education is the responsibility of education ministry in Bangladesh.
