Bangladesh Sizes Up Typhoons for Fighter Requirement

Typhoon will be the game changer for us if inducted. At least 2 squadrons will be needed tho. But then again this is BAF we are talking about. They might just be dreaming about alien flying saucers and end up not buying anything. Like the 10 squadrons dream by 2030 that got my hopes up. Now I will be happy with 5 squadrons of proper 4.5th gen Fighters by the same timeline!

On another note, the trainers purchasing spree is not going to die down anytime soon IMO!

I hope BD buys something good but the Thyphoon is not a good aircraft as very very high maintence costs.

How will daddy india feel about this daring move from hag hasina, considering she doesn't like to antagonize them? They would love to dump their Tejas on bd, if she agrees to it.

Bro, that used to be the case but the latest Typhoons are much cheaper to operate. A little above F-16 cost but not that much more.

32-40 Mk 2 Typhoons with brand new UK AESA radar and Meteor BVRAAM would also make the IAF sh*t their pants, as even the Rafale they have would be at a severe disadvantage to this in aerial combat.

Apart from the life cycle cost, it is a very potent Fighter. It will give us an edge over the IAF Shukhois and Rafaels. Also, everything the MAF has will be obsolete against it. That can be the sole reason to purchase this.
But there are other reasons. For example, we do not have other options. American hardware has lots of strings attached. Same with Grippen as it uses US engines and other sub-systems. Then comes Rafaels, which is becoming more of a possibility but then again IAF has it an adversary of BAF in our geographic condition.
Then comes the topic of Russian hardware. No hope there as CAATSA will kick in and might cripple our economy.
Now comes the topic of Chinese Fighters. BAF might procure J-10s in future to replace the J-7s, and that will give us deterrence against India but not MM as China has a deep-rooted interest there. Also, JF-17 is out of the question because of reasons that are quite clear.

So that leaves us Typhoon as the best course of action!!!

Jf17 reasosn are because of the stupid politicians who still want to divide Muslims. Nothing more. And hassina (who is ugly not haseen) is more Indian than modi

Whatever the reasons are, the point is JF-17 is off-limits for BAF!!!

Typhoon tranche 1 running costs (tranche 1 is the buggy version with teething issues)

This ministry of Defence (UK) document states per hour flight cost of ~4700 £/hour
tornado airframes cost more apparently.

91.1 million £/19650 hours = £4636/Hour = $6374.96/hour of flight

source Number of flying hours and maintenance costs for the Typhoon and Tornado fleets between financial years 2014 and 2016 (publishing.service.gov.uk)

one thing this calculation official document didn't factor in is the fuel costs because of some UK regulations ( it would definetly be higher than F-16) maybe if we estimate the total could go up to 18000 USD/Hour flight (speculation ) i'd say close to F-18 or F-15 costs (speculation).

It's an air superiority beast. I spoke of it as a logical choice for the BAF around three years ago (ask the prominent Bengali members here). I hope you guys get it and then train with the PAF.
Unfortunately BAF will probably end up buying Rafale like the Indonesians. IF they buy anything that is....

BD should go for the gripen.
Much cheaper to buy than the EFT and much cheaper to fly and maintain.
Comes with some really good missiles.
It will be a potent weapon system should BD decide to invade India.
