Bangladesh ‘owns’ hilsa fish

Padma river gets lots of veggie poops from upper Ganges, maybe that's why Bangladeshis claim their Hilsas to be the best in the world and deserve to be called Hilsas*, while others don't.

* We call it Ilish here in India. I prefer Ilish of Hooghly over Hilsas of Padma.
Ah, talk the truth man. You guys poop on Railroad then pigs eats that and then you guys eat that pig. You guys eat your own poop and this circle continues...

Eat that fake ilish and have fun. Nobody cares...

Its called Ilish in BD as well. Where from this Hilsa name came from? Maybe English origin. Its rare to find Ilish in Padma becuase of Farakka barrage. Its highly likely you are getting that poop because the poop water is directly diverted to Hoogly channel. And if BD is getting Padma river ilish, its relatively pure as poop efect is minimized due to desiltation effect of Farakka and strong part of Padma is basically Brahmaputra. BTW Bangladeshis mainly eat ilish of Meghna river stream which mainly comes from Brhmaputra, Shurma-Kushiyara.

Indians are the dirtiest scum on this planet. The people who poop on railroads, poop in their backyard, drink cow urine and then have the audacity to come here and post pictures of poverty in Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi people are living way better than then majority of Indian population and that is a fact.

You can have your large economy I'd rather have a hygiene rating that exceeds one star instead of some rat infested shanty town.

I will try to answer you with logic.

The Hilsha fish that is caught near sea or in coastal region isnt tasty at all. When the Hilsha enters into river to lay egg they stop eating at all. The further they go upstream, they starve for more days . In this time the fat stored in them breaks in their body into oil and makes them testier. So Fishes those are caught farthest from the Bay of Bengal are testier and have that legendary reputation which all of you fail to understand because you most probably have eaten coastal Hilsha. Now if you see the map you will understand where the padma Hilsha is caught, far away from the sea.

I ate Hilsa quite a few times but didn't get what was the whole fuss about it. To me it felts like any bony thorny small fish but I respect the feelings of Bangla people and congratulate them on getting it GIed

See the previous post. It is the source of fish that matters. Then comes the culinary skill of Bengalis of cooking fish. Even in Bengal, the Bangals ( East Bengal Hindus) cook it better than Ghotis ( West Bengalis). So it depends.

And Then again I dont blame you for not liking it. I also hated Hilsha as a kid. And liked Rohita/Rui a lot. But as an adult I have developed a taste for Hilsha. You will get it once you compare them like Chicken and Beef. Chicken is the Rui, Beef is Hilsha. Kids will like chicken but the adults who have developed a taste for savory will go for Beef curry.

No please don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it all but I just didn't get all the fuss and hype around it by Bengali friends who had been singing its praise since the day we discussed our culinary experiences. So I had really high expectations but when I ate it I lost the faith in humanity :lol: (just exaggerating but I mean I found it a pretty normal fish and did not find any special taste etc) but still it was a good cultural experience for me.
