Bangladesh military contingent awarded in South Sudan

Our military has earned fame and goodwill from many countries so far. Bangladesh is contributing the highest number of troops in the UN peacekeeping missions.

Some of the most honorable fame are Nobel price in peace granted to the Bangladesh Army in 1989, Bangla getting the honor of the state language of the Republic of Sierra Leone for the contribution of Bangladesh Army in the UN Peace keeping mission there!!

.
it was $1.33billion in 2010 (does not include the budget to purchase new equipment)

500 million earning and expenditure 1.3 blillon. Not bad.
Good strategy to employ people, earn foreign currency and keep army engaged in something.
I would say bangladesh should massively increase its army size.

Nope, that will be stupid.
By having a big army you can feel more self assured and wont point fingers at foreign powers.

Also you can participate in more UN operations, probably be used in ME armies.
Also they will be good in defending bangladesh if India or burma attacks. Bangladeshi terrain does not support heavy tanks and invading army can be bogged down by groups of army with small arms.

Similar investment in navy/airforce will not give much return.

Only downside is army may try to capture power.

This is how the US controls our military

I prefer a medium sized army rather than a big one. What matters is quality not quantity.

I wish bangladesh army have a special forces team like our navy

I am not talking about food, lol. :)
BD should exploit its own strength( large number of people) like russians did against nazis( unlimited supply of people + unlimited supply of low quality tanks)

We should downsize the army into a leaner and more effective force. And focus more on navy and air force. The latter needs to be upgraded badly.

CONGRATS for a job well done!!

I personally believe there should be optional army training for civilians, i know this is expensive, but this is something which is very useful, both on a personal and national level. Anyway, congrats to our Army.

Completely agree. Bangladesh currently has 280,000 active troops and 120,000 reserves.

For the landmass of Bangladesh this is probably overkill.

It would be sensible to cut the number of active troops in half(while keeping the number of reservists the same) so that the saved money could b spent on buying more modern hardware for the airforce and Navy
