‘Bangladesh-India partnership to be boosted as per Bangabandhu’s dream’

Wow, but why they would want it? Wasn't East Pakistan golden egg giver duck to them?
Not exactly. Hunger for power is one reason. Yahya Khan wanted to use the rift between east and west leaders to stay in power indefinitely. Another was Bhutto's greed for power. He wanted to be the Chief Executive of even one part and not a subsidiary of any other politicians.

Jute is one factor but there was also the US and Japan's development project financing of Pakistan. It was not all east's money that we love to claim. On the other hand, jute was fast losing its luster because of plastic materials to produce sacks internationally. Jute was no more a factor as the golden goose after 1970.

- All the industrialists those days were Indian Muslim families who built their first factories in the east but gradually moved to Karachi after the 1952 Language Movement they thought was a hate recipe against the Urdu-speaking people. It is their money and the govt is not responsible where they invest. But, this shift to the west caused the flying of money to Karachi.

Did they fear that black dwarves ( still they are proud of hell fair skin, pdf is the proof)will rule them and they didn't wanted to be ruled by dwarves? Is it the only reason?
I have been to Karachi and I did not notice that kind of black-brown issue. However, the military reacted because it was worried about the positions of Pathan/Punjabi in it. Democracy would have caused the inclusion of more Bengalis in the military at the expense of Pathan/Punjabi. They have established this position since the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny and were not willing to give it away.

By the way, in a democracy, a majority or a coalition of parties take over the power. There is no way of telling that the people of the east would have always sided with AL in all the following elections. Rather, AL could have lost its popularity once people saw it is incapability. But, ZA Bhutto could not see it.

Anyway, it is good that the east is separated. Now at least we can neither blame the west for our own inefficiency nor they can do it as well.

Yes that's very true. Actually 2 parts of a country can have distance, like between 2 parts of Malaysia. But two part of Pakistan distance was completely odd. A huge country India was in between and when India block air root, both Pakistan only had sea root only and that is more than 3000 miles! it was another big obstacle too IMO.

And for the rest part, thank you for giving me new lights with the informative post.

However, the Muslims did not see the distance an issue in or before 1947. All were in favor of a Muslim majority Pakistan with two wings separated by India but with love for each other. That feeling started to diminish because of this distance and the differences in culture and attitude of the two peoples.

However, in overall, the dominating habit of the military-dominated west caused the drifting of the east although with pain in the heart. Dreams were shattered by the west's inflexible attitude not to grant democracy to flourish.

By the way, in normal times there were no restrictions on flying over India. There always was a direct Dhaka-Karachi flight. But, India banned it during 1971.
