Bangladesh-India friendship deeper than ocean: Foreign Secretary

I think this view is too alarmist. Just because two neighbours don’t fight like cats and dogs doesn’t make them each other’s province. There are enough examples across the world.
Of course. I didn't say Bangladesh *is* India's province. I mentioned a possibility in the future (sarcastically). There's a lot of history present in South Asia which makes it slightly different.

Depends on the direction which India heads.

The nature of Indian governments dealing with Bangladesh on the matter is absolutely undignified.
I have‘t understood the ‘undignified’ part in this. Two countries negotiating with an open mind to resolve all the pending issues is what has happened.
As brought out by @bluesky a lot of issues have been resolved. In a few of them India has lost land. Bangladesh has also given few concessions to arrive at middle ground. This was done by both sides to gain mutual respect and propagate peace in the region. It was done with full dignity and honour.

Which ocean?

I think he meant the shallow puddle on the street when it rains

How about stop blocking bdeshi exports.
Bdesh is India 3rd or 4th largest remittance source. We spend billions in medical tourism.
We buy billions from you but our more efficient factories can't export to you.

Indians have such tunnel vision and your minister calls us termites. Those bengalis in assam migrated to assam during British rule but some how they are illegal bangladeshi.

The day is soon coming when bdesh can tell India to pi** o**

Yeah but to call for independence, lol.

It gave the Kafirs an opportunity to take advantage of Muslim disunity.

I also blame the West Pakistani leadership at the time, but to call for independence, Good luck to that.

Funny part is that you are saying that on a Pakistani forum. lol. :P

Well the state would kill people if they wanted to commit treason.

Tell both sides of the story.

LOL, go enjoy your freedom. Pakistanis really do not care about some unimportant country like Bangladesh.

Calling independence is committing treason.
Not handing power to majority victor is also a treason.

Water security is pivotal. The nature of Indian governments dealing with Bangladesh on the matter is absolutely undignified.

You cannot expect neighbours to move on from every mistake so graciously like Bangladesh has done so far.
I personally do not think India should be blamed for the water shortage in BD. I do not like bickering when discussing an issue and blame others for our own fault.

An engineering problem must be solved with the proper use of engineering knowledge, but we try to solve it by politicking.

Please read below and tell me which points are wrong in my assessments of the situations. I ask other people's opinions, too. But, I demand opinions based on logic and sound knowledge of open channel hydraulics.

BD's rainfall catchment areas are too large encompassing the entire Himalaya, north India and Assam. It is true that the Farakka and Teesta barrages withhold water during winter when we need water to irrigate our farmlands.

But, we could have built our own barrage across a downstream point of the Ganges and build dikes along the two banks to retain rainwater for uses in the winter. But, BD has failed to build such a barrage.

In the case of Teesta, BD has built the Teesta Barrage but it is in a wrong location about 13 km downstream after crossing the border. Instead, It should have been built another 90 km downstream where Teesta water falls into the Brahmaputra.

Recently, our govt has asked China to do some beautification works in the Teesta but again without a second barrage downstream. So, BD is not doing its part properly in both the cases but blaming India squarely for the shortage of water.

It is not the 10th century world when the population was tiny and the nature fed us. But, in this 21st century, we still depend upon nature to feed us without learning engineering and applying it to solve our agricultural/ irrigation problems.

That I also agree with you.

Had Mujib been the leader of Pakistan I would have accepted that arrangement.

West Pakistan committed treason 1st as it denied its rightful ruler, so in retrospect it was West Pakistan that committed treason and Bangladesh just reacted to the circumstances of treason.

Well that is your opinion.

Personally in the long run it would have been better to save the unity, but hey what is done is done.

Good luck!

West pak calling its 60 +(-) pop Black monkeys and other things. Yeh I think it was for the best to separate against caste based Muslims, after all its against Islam.

Bdesh will raise, India will become more fragmented, the only thing holding it together it neo nazi Hinduism and it unified hate for Muslims. Other elements Sikhs are sometimes getting it. Inshallal India Eastern block should splinter.

Also with the d-8 rising and the next 11 economies raising with a multi polar world, soon on the raise. This should also create a military co-operation and military alliengces.

Soon significant and important Muslim counties would become hard for the u.s to bomb for no real reason.
