BD government doubled the salary this year. Thats why defense budget gone up.
Even the overall annual budget is up 30%.

.
Myanmar will still remain more powerful, considering that other countries are not that militarized, Bangladesh can come 4th in class of 4 students. :P

yeah this is what i was trying to tell that bengali in a light way but you made it clear very straight :D

even if bangladesh increase its defense budget from myanmar still they need years to increase their military equipment from myanmar.

Normally The budget allocated for military is for Running the entire system such as salaries Training and maintenance of different establishments. Even the word"development" here are used for structural development; not the procurement of arms.

But the procurement of Arms comes from different source; from the reserve on Adhoc basis.

In every country defense procurement is not done from defense budget. Pakistan defense budget for 2016-17 is $8.27 billion and it only includes salaries, training expenses, maintenance of arms and other developments not defense procurement.

Defense procurement in myanmar isn't done from defense budget too. Hope you guys stop trolling and accept the fact.

Equipment can be bought and incorporate very quick. Its the manpower part which needs years to build up. BD is procuring stuff very quick recently which they could not do in first 40 years of existence.

Myanmar defence budget says it otherwise.

Why are you comparing BD with MM. BD follows its own way. No competition with the neighbours as there is no territorial disputes or rivalry and BD has no internal insurgency problems like MM, what is their driving force behind becoming heavily arming.

Its your personal point of view. History says otherwise. North Korea also has a lot of equipment and a quite big military but it can't sustain a conventional war with South Korea.

I don't know where you search everything but for the present fiscal year myanmar defense budget is more than yours.

Not me, it was your friends whom were comparing bangladesh with myanmar.

BD will in due course even build it's own aircraft carrier as it needs the ability to hit India from the West in any future conflict.

Expect sometime in the 2040s, BD CVBGs to routinely sail up and down the Indian coastline.

You are right. BD will need a blue water navy by 2040. As there won't be any land left for them to live on. :P Jokes.

On a serious note, good luck to Bangladesh. Rise of Bangladesh is always welcome by most Indians. I don't understand why some Indians are so anti-BD.

no one can stop you from seeing dreams.

see the difference between pakistan military and your military and we are increasing our military strength year on year. your PM added one or two submarines this year and we are going to add 8 new submarines soon. For 2016-17 we are going to add 24 new JF-17s. We are gonna show the world our Al-khalid 2 soon and not only this we are also making more powerful missiles.

So you should better concentrate on matching your forces with mynamar first.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh military comparison

Dude - you need to think in a more holistic sense and not strictly in terms of a narrow vision of what has happened in the past and current procurements.

Pakistan has always had a military advantage over BD as it started off as the ruler of the former Pakistan in 1947. A lot of the infrastructure in current Pakistan and it's military was built using BD resources - no need to write an essay on this but without the resources of BD, Pakistan would not been able to develop the way it did from 1947-1971.

From 1971 till around the year 1990, BD was suffering from the exploitation of Pakistan during 1947-1971 and also needed the time to build up it's economy like the garments industry.

If you look at the average GDP/capita growth rate from 1990-2015, then you will see that Pakistan has managed around 2% while BD has done 4%. This is clear where the two economies are heading. You may say that Pakistan has had terrorism issues over the last decade but remember that the US pumped in money and debt forgiveness to Pakistan to ameliorate some of this and BD has one of the worst infrastructure in the whole of S. Asia, which is being rectified as we speak. No less than IMF predicts this advantage to continue over the next 5 years.

BD is not buying much stuff as it is now aiming for high quality rather than quantity like Myanmar. 44 Chinese MBT-2000s were brought and the army did not like them and so the MBT-3000 is now being considered. Myanmar just likes to buy anything it can get it's hands on in bulk.

I am not trying to put down the JF-17 but it is not in the class of a fighter like the Mig-35/SU-30 which BD air-force is likely to get over the next 5 years. Never mind that JF-17s would not hold a candle to anything like the J-31 which is a candidate for purchase next decade to really give teeth to BD airforce.

They are mostly bitter W. Bengalis.

Some just dont like the idea of independent BD now doing better than W Bengal, and others blame BD for kicking their ancestors out.

Kinda makes sense. But the only Indian Bengali person that I know has served in Indian Army at the rank of Major and is very pro-Bangladeshi.

Also, anyone saying that Bangladesh can never match Pakistan in terms of military are not being fair and honest.

In today's age economy is the all powerful tool of any successful nation and soon Bangladesh will have a bigger economy than Pakistan. So, it will all boil down to the intent of the political class in BD.

Like China vis-a-vis America. Right now China is nowhere near challenging America. But in the later half of the century when China's economy will be bigger than America's they'll just need political will to spend more than America on defence and within a few year's they can modernise their military.

.
That's very important for
This is potentially very significant.

Hope this is the start of a general upward trend in defence expenditure by BD.

The country can well afford to spend more on defence as it already spends the lowest
out of S Asian countries and also has the lowest debt burden as well.
Seems South Asia is going to have another powerful military after India and Pakistan. :D
Its very important for bd to improve their defence in current situation

.
It's more about availability and affordability.
If it were only affordability rather than strategic consideration then you would have found cheap low quality india made weapon in Bangladesh's armed force. But that was never the case. Not a single Indian junk in our army, navy or air forces.

You do realize that there is a difference between manufacturing , assembling one's own aircrafts and buying them ? JF-17 is being made in Kamra's aeronautical complex . we are one of the few nations in the world to do that . We are now capable of producing 20-40 JF-17's a year with production of block 2 underway . Can Bangladesh even produce a trainee plane let alone fighter jet? Bangladesh may have that capability after 50 years . There is absolutely no Comparison between BD and Pakistan . We have around 500-600 fighter jets compared to 30-40 of yours . Same goes for army and navy .

Also Does Bangladesh even have a missile programme?

Not me, it was your friends who were comparing bangladesh with myanmar.

I thought may be its useful to notify you if you are getting wrong signal. We from this region can talk bit and compare but other part of subcontinent may not get the idea totally. You may think like its totally as India vs Pak or Pak vs Afghan but its not. Its totally different. BD dont have hostile relation with India or MM. And India and MM has bigger things to worry than BD. For example MM has to worry about its border with India, China, Thailand, Laos and BD states. And they have to worry non state actors originating from those countries. Then they have their own internal insurgents. So they have a huge burden to bear compared to their small GDP. On the other hand BD shares small boundary with MM which is easily manageable. Its absurd to compare the two.

Pakistan cannot design and produce the JF-17 by itself. It is primarily a Chinese aircraft with a Russian engine.

No big deal as regards you having 500-600 fighter jets as most will be obsolete by 2030 when BD will have completed it's military modernisation. By 2030, BD air-force will consist of majority 5th generation fighters - aircraft like F-16 and JF-17 will be target practice for 5th generation planes.

60 % of JF -17 is made in Kamra .

Pakistan purportedly has the capacity to assemble up to 25 aircraft per year without Chinese assistance. As I reported previously, Pakistan produces 58 percent of the airframe and China 42 percent respectively. The chief of air staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, said this year in April that Pakistan intends to build a total of 24 fighter jets in 2016.

I don't know why you didn't understand my last comment in which I simply told you that "not me, it was your friends who started comparing bangladesh vs myanmar".

Again, your friends started it and since then they are trolling here that BD has a powerful military in front of myanmar which is incorrect.

So kindly read all the comments to understand who started it.

Its very important for bd to improve their defence in current situation

why?
are they planning to invade in any other country? :D :D :D
