Ashraful Islam scored four goals including a hattrick, as Bangladesh made a convincing start in the Biximco Under-18 Asian Hockey defeating mighty India by 5-4 on Saturday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.

Ashraful, who played for the domestic league champions Mariner Youngs Club, converted all his goals from penalty corners and Fazle Hossain Rabbi added the other one to steer Bangladesh to a historic win, as it is the second ever win against India in any level.

Congratulations Bengal on your great win. Bangladesh is fast emerging as a country excelling in sports. This is different from the past when it was neither known in cricket nor in hockey.

My congratulations to Bangladesh, even though my team lost. BD is improving in every sphere, in some it has gone ahead, and - as I keep saying- in a few years it will be a stunning growth story. Well done.
