Well that could be a theory, because sports does not work like Maths. For instance, if team A beats team B, and team B beats team C, there is still no guarantee that team A will beat C, or any way of predicting margin of defeat. In fact, after a bad 13-0 thrashing, one would expect by law of averages that such a severe thrashing won't happen immediately again.

But then you never know. If ID are really weak, maybe there isn't much to it. Also remember that hockey has become very high scoring over the years

Rising to the occasion, Indian men's hockey team slammed six goals in the final quarter for a crushing 16-0 victory against Indonesia, a result that took the holders into the knockout stage of the Asia Cup but shut the World Cup door on Pakistan in Jakarta on Thursday. India needed to win the Pool A contest by at least a 15-0 margin to qualify and the young players of the side delivered under pressure. Both India and Pakistan finished on four points each in Pool A behind Japan but the defending champions qualified for the Super 4s due to better goal difference (1). Pakistan had lost 2-3 to Japan earlier in the day.

The result not only pushed Pakistan out of the tournament but also dashed their hopes of World Cup qualification since only the top three teams here will be given tickets for the big event.

India, being the hosts, will play the World Cup later in the year and hence Hockey India decided to send young players to this tournament for exposure.

Pakistan not qualifying for the WC is a side effect of this result. But India needed the same margin to advance in this current tournament didn't it?

It would be more suspicious if India had already qualified for the next round, but still thrashed ID by a margin they didn't need to. That is not the case here. They needed this margin for this tournament itself

Ah Yes. That's why I called it a conspiracy theory. Pakistan disqualification is a major relief for India as India is hosting the world cup and Pakistan would have done major dramas to play in India.
