A court in Cox’s Bazar has ordered to send to jail two Myanmar journalists, who are arrested on charges of concealing identity and providing false information to Bangladesh authorities amid Rohingya crisis.

Police said the law enforcers arrested the duo - Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat - near the border at Ukhia on Sept 13 when they entered into Bangladesh as tourists and started taking photos apparently as part of their 'journalistic assignment'. They were produced before the court on the following day.

Cox’s Bazar Assistant Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul told bdnews24.com on Saturday that Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Kumar Deb denied them bail and ordered the law enforcers to send them to jail.

“They concealed their identity as journalists. They came to Bangladesh on the tourist visa. They were taking photos along the border in Cox’s Bazar and collecting information from government officials by providing false information,” the police officer said.

The two Myanmar citizens said they work for Germany-based magazine GEO as its photographer, according to the ASP.

According to reports, GEO magazine authorities expressed concern over the arrest of the two photographers who were covering the exodus of Rohingya refugees fleeing violence in Rakhine State into Bangladesh.

Jotirmoy Barua, the lawyer for the two, told bdnews24.com that they would file bail petitions at the court again on Tuesday. They would move the High Court if the court denied them bail again, he added.

.
What is Bangladesh govt. trying to hide from Myanmar jurnos.?

. .
Bangladesh should send these two subhumans back to burma..... however in a body bag

.
The more appropriate question is what are 2 random Burmese journalists doing there, especially when tensions between the 2 country is high.

Is Bangladesh also a closed state like North Korea, Kashmir, Iran and Afghanistan !

It is not but in the current circumstances these logically are spies and BD needs to deal with them accordingly.

World media is covering the issue and are now in the ground. Your assertion is illogical that BD is trying to hide anything

Add one more country, Myanmar. Having said that, I'm sure you know the answer to your question.

2 random journos taking pictures of refugees, surrounding areas, collecting infos., that too hailing from a closed state themselves that created this situation in the first place. Ironic?

Your general knowledge is little weak
MYanmar does'nt allow any foreign journos in Rakhine , shan state, etc.. and deports anyone they think is recording the pictures in rakhine.
Whenyour naitons is involvedin genocide why should that journalist go to such a place. And why did they conceal their identity. Journos basically inform authorities about themselves and given some space. This could've been dangerous for him if anyone suspected he is from Myanmar.

.
BD did the right thing in this case. No foreigner should conceal their identity and roam around freely while collecting information. If they are real journalists then I'm sure with proper identification and proof they will be allowed to go home.

Stupid act instead of arresting them, they should've left them in Rohingya camp, telling them both are agents from Myanmar. They would've done the needful with Bangladesh saving some expenses for itself to attend these Myanmar terrorists. Myanmar animals kept Rohingya in concetration camps, practiced a policy of not letting Rohingya have more than 2 children. Did'nt let them go to schools or allow them access to any financial institution, for that they used to restrict their access. On border they used to rape women just to allow them to cross from their country. Myanmar animals are not humans they should be treated the way their govt. treats minorities incl. Chinese, Shan people and Rohingya.

.
They weren't arrested for being Burmese journalists but arrested for entering the country with a tourist visa, but working as journalists, which violates Bangladeshi law. Aptly deserved.

.
Absolutely right decision. whatever they are journalist as per present situation no body should allow from Myanmar or if any one found from other countries who work for MM agent they should also need to arrested.lets make a intelligence operation i think more will found.
