Bangladesh blocks YouTube to prevent people from seeing anti-Islamic video.

DHAKA, Bangladesh — The government in Bangladesh has blocked YouTube to prevent people from seeing an anti-Islam video produced in the U.S. ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad.

Mir Mohammaed Morshed, a spokesman for the state-run Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd., says the government blocked YouTube late Monday. He says the decision will remain effective until further notice.

On Sunday, the chief of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said the government sent a letter to Google, which owns YouTube, urging it to remove the video. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the same request.

Google has blocked access to the video in Libya and Egypt following violence there, and in Indonesia and India because it says the video broke laws in those countries.

Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority nation of 160 million people but is governed by laws based on British common law.

People in this subcontinent are always touchy, if you don' see it, there are many examples in India too. One party said "Mandi banake rahenge" and whole India went crazy.

Its not about religion but about the environment in which we live. People from India and Pakistan, Hindus and Muslims, get along very well in foreign countries while in our sub-continent, people are more volatile.

To be respected, one should respect others. Its a two-way street.

Bangladeshi govt. has to take action. The argument that people will find alternatives is not that impressive.

Actually the discussion like this generate Buzz on Internet, Online Word of Mouth is a major driving force in many people's decision making and information gathering. If any Indian has problem understanding it look at the online buzz of movie "Barfi".

youtube is not the only video streaming website out thea....
anti islam videos and blogs are there in abundance all over internet....
IF these pakistani or bangladeshi government really meant to stop all this....

Buddy most of the people don't search for anti-Islamic blogs and videos. How many such videos have you seen on Dailymotion or Metacafe ? Youtube is the first choice. But this controversy is already doing more damage. Govt. has to take step, after all Govt. is for people. It has to respect the general sentiment.

More debate on this issue, more people will see it. Chinese approach would have been good.

People should know what's going on around. I don't like this ban drama once in a while. Sometimes people just overeact on hearsays not knowing what actually happened and to what extent their reaction is justified. People 'should' be trusted, there's no better alternative.
