The whole of south asian region is a shit hole full of hungry population who are lucky to get by a single meal a day while the minority here who can afford to pay for the internet are chest thumping at who's better off.. Pathetic

But Modi Shab asked to fight a war in this front

Well not just Mr. Modi but every other South Asian leader needs to make war on poverty and hunger a priority.. It's a bloody shame

Look where the region is in bottom of the pile and some of you have a the audacity to belittle each other.. Get real mate

Bangladesh was ranked 90 among the 118 countries, Nepal (72), Myanmar (75) and Sri Lanka (84) Pakistan (107) and India (97).

There is a reason behind it. Bengal suffered the most under colonial rule and Turned into Poorest from the richest within 200 years. The Pakistanis and Indians are still in colonial hung over and make fun of us. They call us Kangladeshi while Bangladesh progresses silently. Sometimes It is necessary that the information penetrates their thick skull. Peace.

You get dickheads from every nation, PDF attracts the worse sometimes, Prepubescent delusional kids who probably have not set a step out side their neighborhoods pretending to be experts in global affairs, Especially a lot of Indians.. As the saying goes empty vessels make the most noise, So lets not humor them

Bangladesh is a rapidly growing nation with great potential to be a regional economic power the numbers speak for themselves, Celebrate that and you're right Bangladesh is progressing silently thats the best way to do it.. Cheers

BD has a long way to go. I can not celebrate this. Our country should be able to feed its people. It's the most basic of thing.

We can blame as many things as we want, but the fact remains a lot of our people can not afford nutritious food as a matter of course. There can be nothing more important than food security and GOB needs to do more.

How dare you speak the truth!! Someone ban this idiot

More steps in the right direction - positive things SHOULD be celebrated (Successive Govts, UN, NGOs, Donors all have played a part), but we mustn't get complacent. So much more work to do...it's not just about people getting fed three times a day, but getting nutrition levels up.

We are still lagging far behind the 2nd tier nations let alone the truly developed world.

We need to ensure infants are taken care of, because stunted growth at that age is damage that cannot be undone and that lost potential is not only a hindrance to the family but the nation as a whole.

@Gibbs - I'm sorry, I gotta disagree. There are of course millions of poor and destitute people in Bangladesh. The slums are living proof of that - but, the number of people struggling to eat 1 meal a day is now minuscule.

Anyone that has visited Bangladesh in the last 10-12 years will tell you that.

Actually there was little data change anywhere for the region between the 2015 preliminary data and 2016 (where 2015 data is now vetted). I mean its just one year that has elapsed.

What is concerning for the BD chest thumpers is that India GHI score is improving a lot faster than BD now and is a better in overall undernourished population (15.2% compared to 16.4%) while this was reversed in 2008 (17.2% to 17%)

BD improved its score by 5.3 points in 8 years (2008 - 2016)....current score is 27.1 (lower is better)

India improved its score by 7.5 points in 8 years....current score is 28.5

This means at same rate, in about 4 years time India will have surpassed BD in hunger index.

In any case, both countries are improving...they are quite close in most parameters, so its good to see....whereas some countries in region are stagnating quite terribly:

Pakistan improved its score by just 1.7 points in 8 years....current score of 33.4

What is also concerning is that hunger index is worsening in Sri Lanka @Gibbs @Godman :

There was a regressing of 1.1 points since 2008 over 8 years from 24.4 to 25.5.

Myanmar has been the best performer in the region, improving by 10 points in 8 years, dropping from 32 to 22. So much for all the despicable words used by BD posters for Myanmar development (especially ironic when they attempt to take the high moral chair w.r.t India/Pakistan like they are attempting in this thread too).

Nepal made good improvement too improving by 7.3 points to 21.9 now.

In terms of absolute improvement amount for the region:

Burma = Gold
India = Silver
Nepal = Bronze

@Aung Zaya @alaungphaya

Congrats to all the big improvers....the stagnators and regressors must do better! In the end we must wish the best for all of humanity.

Good analysis.

Well done Bongloos.

But we have to feed 1.2 billion people. Not that easy. Why does everyone here like comparing with India though ?
Comparing is alright. It's a good way to measure your improvements. And India being the neighbour and a doing well country surely it will be compared with other countries. Nothing wrong in that. But it is irritating when people brags about that and tries to imply my country is doing well than yours. Specially when none of our countries are in a good position. It's like second last bragging to the last how well he/she has done. Pathetic mindset actually. But very common one.
