Actually there was little data change anywhere for the region between the 2015 preliminary data and 2016 (where 2015 data is now vetted). I mean its just one year that has elapsed.
What is concerning for the BD chest thumpers is that India GHI score is improving a lot faster than BD now and is a better in overall undernourished population (15.2% compared to 16.4%) while this was reversed in 2008 (17.2% to 17%)
BD improved its score by 5.3 points in 8 years (2008 - 2016)....current score is 27.1 (lower is better)
India improved its score by 7.5 points in 8 years....current score is 28.5
This means at same rate, in about 4 years time India will have surpassed BD in hunger index.
In any case, both countries are improving...they are quite close in most parameters, so its good to see....whereas some countries in region are stagnating quite terribly:
Pakistan improved its score by just 1.7 points in 8 years....current score of 33.4
What is also concerning is that hunger index is worsening in Sri Lanka
@Gibbs @Godman :
There was a regressing of 1.1 points since 2008 over 8 years from 24.4 to 25.5.
Myanmar has been the best performer in the region, improving by 10 points in 8 years, dropping from 32 to 22. So much for all the despicable words used by BD posters for Myanmar development (especially ironic when they attempt to take the high moral chair w.r.t India/Pakistan like they are attempting in this thread too).
Nepal made good improvement too improving by 7.3 points to 21.9 now.
In terms of absolute improvement amount for the region:
Burma = Gold
India = Silver
Nepal = Bronze
@Aung Zaya @alaungphaya
Congrats to all the big improvers....the stagnators and regressors must do better! In the end we must wish the best for all of humanity.
