Bangladesh bans books written by radical Islamic author
By Anbarasan Ethirajan BBC News, Dhaka

A scale, the election symbol of the Jamaat-e-Islami party The government wants to curb the Jamaat-e-Islami party

The Bangladeshi government has ordered mosques and libraries across the country to remove all books written by a controversial Islamic scholar.

The chief of the government-funded Islamic Foundation told the BBC that the books by Syed Abul Ala Maududi encouraged "militancy and terrorism".

Mr Maududi - who died in 1979 - is the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami party.

His works are essential reading for supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami party in the region.

Born in India, the Pakistani scholar is considered the most prominent theorist of radical Islam in modern South Asian history.

But Bangladeshi officials say Mr Maududi's writings promote radicalism and his ideological goal was to capture power in the name of Islam.

"His writings are against the peaceful ideology of Islam. So, it is not correct to keep books of Mr Maududi in mosques," Islamic Foundation Director-General Shamim Mohammad Afjal told the BBC.

The government has now ordered nearly 24,000 libraries attached to mosques to remove his books immediately. Some have already started to do so.

A senior official from Jamaat-e-Islami, ATM Azharul Islam, described the move as an attack on Islam.

"Mr Maududi's books are being published in many countries and there have been no complaints against his writings so far," he said.

The decision by the Awami League-led government is widely seen as part of its efforts to curb the activities of Jamaat-e-Islami, accused by many Bangladeshis of collaborating with the Pakistani army during the 1971 war of independence.

Five senior leaders of the party were arrested recently on charges of committing mass murder during the war. The party denies the accusations.

Lenin, Stalin, Trotosky etc also levelled Masjid as Junkyard and destroyed 1,24,000 of it during the establishment of communism but at the end GOD's mysterious work abolished "Soviet Empire". As Socretes quoted, " I to die, you to live, who is better only GOD knows"; Almighty's mystery in a contained, invaded land of Munafik, Satan armies would better be been less than 70 yrs(Timeline of Great Commie's fall).

I am no fan of Maulan Maududis philosphy but political opression will not work and is not a good sign for the country. A better idea would be to engage in discussion and I think traditional scholars are the best source to eradicate maududis philosphy.

well some pdf members will be happy to hear that, but i wonder where will the secularism/liberalism go then :woot:

btw i am not a fan of madudi but banning something like that did not make sense to me :undecided:

Even Moududi advised people to accept others if they found any better 'Wondow dressing of Islam' than his. But up until today, no one
got closer to write 19 parts of Tafhimul Quoran's alike or over 40 books with HIS aptitude. See, it's not Moududi that INDO-ZIONs are after, they are in a mission of Muslim and Islam's anhilation. Otherwise, why on earth SH Bibi and her Malaun army are arresting Hijbut Tahrir's member in BD? And why has army created Voi-Fur/Non-Existence JMB to discredit popular Islamic parties? Just because BD is a contained and invaded country by Indian, Zion's puppets, they are audacious enough to act worse than Bolsheviks against Jamaaties but the same people are taking tactically different route by not directly going after JI's in PAK. You are talking about traditional scholars but who are they? Deobondi, Shia, Ahmadis? And if they are traditional than why not JI walas? Once She-Re-Bangla commented that if a Dada of WB praised a East Bengali Muslim that meant he was going down and if went after the same EB Muslim that was sign of Muslim doing the right thing. By seeing oppression against Jamaaties, it seemed like they were one of those EBs that pursued the righteous path in BD, compriente?

Maududi ideology is based on hatred and religious supremacy for muslims, something that goes against many of the ideals of Islam, I believe it is a good step by the BD govt to ban his works which are poisoning our society...............

If so then it should be banned in Pakistan first then Bangladesh. you are not aware what's going on here. Awami taking out all Islam related book from national Masjid library written by prominent Islamic scholars including Maududi. Most of these scholars happen to be affiliated with Jamat politics. It is not done for good cause rather ill political motive.

Tell me can they really ban these book from Bangladesh if people want's to read it?

In Bangladesh, Awami is not into civil discussion. It's people right to follow his philosophy or reject it.

First off, there doesn't exist anything call Moududi's ideology. He simply EXPLAINED QURAN & Hadidth with the touch of Tech-Industrial-Material era.

Secondly, even after JI chief's arrest and hundred of other's death and torture by AWAMY fascists, not even a single personal property was destroyed by its members. So, compare to BJP, Bajrang Dal, VHP, LIKUD, Repubs etc they were like angels let alone hate mongers.

Thirdly, no one need to learn peacefullness of Islam from Bharaties as its so-called Muslim Institutes have been regulated by GOVT thus they have surrenderd to Hindutavyas. So, Indian-Muslims have departed from the core of Islam. And reverse psychology would only work against ignorance but there are Idune, MBI, Skies and Al-Zakirs that don't fall in that category IMHO.

Lastly, sun shines, moon provide lights and earth still function for real GOD fearing creatures that don't create monsterous/open-ended -boggy to build sinful empire otherwise Namrud, Feroun, Karun, Romans, Soviets etc haven't got abolished. Poisonus are those who blindly mis-speak, imotionally support nationalism etc.

Brother, they prefer Tagore books over Hadis or Islamic book. Nauzubillah.

I dont mind Moududi's book for intellectual research/debate but the way Jamaat used it like a text book to radicalize a segment of our people is despicable. So I support ban..
