Bangladesh received a record $6.79 billion in foreign aid in the first three quarters of the current financial year, up 55 per cent from last fiscal's, officials say.
In the past fiscal year (FY) 2020-21, external development partners released $4.38 billion worth of assistance during the July-March period.
The increased concessional-aid inflow comprised the record- highest fund disbursement by the Asian Development Bank and the Japan government, Economic Relations Division (ERD) officials said Saturday.

Out of the total amount of $6.79 billion, according to ERD data, the ADB alone supplied $1.91 billion and Japan $1.57 billion.

The new loan for the last eight months amounts to $6.79 billion. This when interpolated it becomes about $10.185 billion. And the debt servicing becomes $2.385.

No one really knows if the new loan will actually reach a $10.185 billion or not, but the debt servicing will certainly be $2.385 billion. Last year, it was above $2.0 billion and the year before, the debt servicing stood at $1.93 billion when BD received a promise of getting $7 billion new loans.

One can see the loan repayment volume is increasing every year and will increase at a higher rate during the next few years as more and more loans will be matured.

I feel scared because the import bill has exceeded $80 billion and the foreign exchange reserves have come down to $33.4 billion. This $33.4 billion is good enough to import goods for only five months. Not very healthy.
