It could be a good replacement for the aging G-3.

We can try to ask the Americans and the Belgians. I am sure something can come out of it. It's a flexible rifle.

Why would they object our military's modernization plans? Did any Bangladeshi leader threten to wipe India off the map or something?

The Indians need to understand that the SA region is a volatile one, and the politics of Bangladesh is far from peaceful. Therefore, a sufficient military is necessary for Bangladesh.

And people here say Bangladesh is not even "1%" important to India.

A civil war must be avoided. That's why the military never allowed either parties to have full control over them.

If (God forbid) a civil war is on the horizon, the army must be competent enough to handle both internal and external threats. And neutralize the sources of threat.

A virtual coup would only be the very last option.

Bangladesh needs an army because its a sovereign country and Bangladesh is important as its our neighbour and doing serious efforts to curb terrorism against India which is greatly appreciated and we are grateful to Bangladesh.

That may be because your countrymen claim they need tank, fighter planes and army to defend against India so maybe some leg pulling from our side.

I don't recall anyone saying that but many Indians here have questioned the logic of BD Govt spending vast amounts of money on fighter jets which would rather spend on helicopters, transport planes and SAMs.

And where did we say we are spending billions on fighter jets? The exact details haven't been released yet. SAMs like S-300 also cost money. Even C-130s and C-17s don't come cheap either.

It's not like we are spending billions on Western fighters like Hornets or Typhoons or something.

Although, we can safely assume that one priority is to replace the BN's aging ex-Royal Navy frigates which by the way are 50 years old by now.

Developed countries like USA should help us in acquiring transport aircrafts specially Chinooks

because we are prone to disasters like cyclone following high tide and flood.........

our army need those logistics badly to reduce death in such crisis and provide help to the victims instantly after any disaster!

i dont know why our gov. doesnt play this card.....................

And helicopter for what? We have enough transport plane and hellos to serve our need. Attack hellos?? I dont see any use of it as we are not invading your country with our mechanized division to back them up.

and i was not talking about air warfare.. this thread was about army..... A modern army needs support from helo... iraq war proved this..... Americans died in numbers when they tried to fight from ground against iraqi tanks used as pillbox......

I very much doubt if they'd offer us the AH-64 Apache anytime soon. They are already offering it to India.

But, we do need UAVs to monitor our borders properly.

The Chinook is very expensive. I think it'd be better to go for MI-26. It has the same capacity as a C-130.

I'd suppose you are speaking from experience(?)

Fighter jets are also offensive platforms. And four squadrons? Really?

Thats absolutely right. But you need to make room for Hellos to operate in the sky. Without good fighters and interceptor they will become just some target practice for MKI.
