Army would be turned into modern, efficient force by 2030: PM
Published September 11, 2011

News Hours BD, RAJENDRAPUR, Gazipur, Sept 11: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said that Bangladesh Army would be turned into a modern, efficient and effective force by 2030 as it has adopted a Forces Goal 2030.

“We are implementing Vision 2021, while Bangladesh Army has adopted a Forces Goal 2030 to transform it into a modern, efficient and time-befitting force in line with the vision,” she said while presenting the National Standard Award to the Ordnance Centre and School at Rajendrapur Cantonment Parade Ground here this morning.

The Prime Minister said a ‘doctrine of unconventional warfare’ has been formulated by utilizing the experiences the Bangalee nation gathered through the great War of Liberation, while a database is being prepared by collecting area-based data which will be turned into a coordinated training and exercise in phases.

She called upon the members of the Bangladesh Army to establish it as a disciplined, efficient and modern force in the world.

“We want you would establish yourselves as a disciplined, efficient and modern force in the world, uphold the national flag of Bangladesh and always ready for performing the duty for protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to build a happy and prosperous country free from poverty and hunger. “We would establish a modern, developed and democratic country being imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation War,” she said.

With this, she said, the nation would materialize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “Let us advance towards our desired goal by working unitedly,” she said.

Ministers, parliament members, chiefs of the threes services, the GOC of Army Research and Training Doctrine, logistic area commander, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Press Secretary to the PM, commandant of the Ordnance Centre and School and high military officials were present at the function.

Well, much of our heavy equipment are getting old. We need to replace them at some point in the future. But still, compared to India and China, it is a small military.

This isn't New Zealand or something, where trouble can hit at anytime. And especially as long as those two women are around. And will be that way for quite sometime.

Seems like the only thing on her head is her long dead father. It is understandable why the AL spends more on military since they aren't trusted. Let's not forget how her long dead father starved his very own troops who fought for him.

Bangladesh don't need a Army it need a very strong economy.

Its not that because I am from India.

Its the fact:

1.) Bangladesh have huge population that too raising fast.

2. Bangladesh is the worst effected country by the global warming.

In the end if Bangladesh is to be strong and develop it needs big economy and BD is blessed to have a peaceful neighbor like India that it don't need a Army but rangers to check on smugglers etc.

This plan must include local production of all kinds of arms

I sincerely doubt that you are a BD national.

BTW, Bangali people have brain and that's the biggest weapon in this planet.

Well, that is if the political leaders are committed to that. From what I know, they currently aren't. You have to understand that the Bangladesh Army is a completely different organization, a state within a state. And there are reasons for this.

Where did BD being Afghanistan come from? How will BD manufacturing its own arms make it Afghanistan? It already license produce the G-3 since the Pakistan era, and manufactures the Type-56 and the Type-81. How does this make BD Afghanistan?

Race or ethnicity don't have anything to do with intelligence. Although, culture can play a role.

Is it possible for our army to adopt a new generation rifle like SAR and produce it locally????

.
I heard that a detailed and extensive national defence policy had been drafted but caused controversy between the army and the AL government.

SAR? Or are you referring to SCAR?
FN SCAR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It could be a good replacement for the aging G-3.

We can try to ask the Americans and the Belgians. I am sure something can come out of it. It's a flexible rifle.

Why the controversy?
