Bangladesh abstains in UNGA vote over Ukraine issue

lets wait and see.

China 1989 was frozen and what happen after that? was it continue frozen till now? and dont have any trade with west after 1989 right lol.
China suffered sanctions because of the June 4, 1989 incident, its foreign exchange was frozen, and it could only trade with the West indirectly through Hong Kong.
Pakistanis should know this very well, because Pakistan and Cuba are the only two countries that support China. At that time, Pakistan was sanctioned by USA for supporting China.
Chinese people often say that the friendship between China and Pakistan has withstood the test, that means 1989. Previously, the friendship between China and Pakistan usually came from China's protection and support to Pakistan. 1989 made us understand that Pakistanis are also willing to sacrifice for us.

Replacing Russian gas in short term will be difficult for Europe, since their dependency on Russian gas is significant. Putin has been betting on it so far.

I am guessing his thinking is that this winter is almost over. When the next winter is here, and the demand for gas goes up for heating, the European Govt will be forced to accept his demands. Because when people start feeling cold and start dying of cold in their own homes, they won't be caring so much about what's happening in Ukraine. They will be blaming their own government for lack of heating alternative.

It is clearly visible in NATO Summit. The countries heavily dependent on Russian gas is singing completely different tune than those who are not as dependent.

Here is an example:
Germany, which gets 55% of its gas imports from Russia, however, has warned that an immediate ban would cause unemployment and stop drivers filling their cars. To stop using Russian energy “from one day to the next would mean plunging our country and all of Europe into recession”, the chancellor, Olaf Scholz, said on Wednesday.

He was supported by Belgium’s prime minister, Alexander De Croo, who said an oil embargo “would have a devastating effect on the European economy and I don’t think it’s necessary”.

After four rounds of far-reaching EU sanctions in three weeks, targeting Putin, his inner circle and large parts of the Russian economy, there are growing tensions among EU leaders about the next steps.

The European leaders know the impact it will have on the economy and their own political future come next winter. Putin has been betting on this disunity from the very beginning.

However, in the long run, Putin won't be able to continue with this approach. As by then alternatives to Russia will be made available to a great extent.

Yes agreed. But what if by this time other countries stop their dependency on dollar? Like already Saudi Arabia , India , and even Bangladesh are planning to buy from Russia with chinese yuan?

But I think it's hard for yuan to bean international currency as without physical goods you can transfer yuan ( correct me please if I am wrong) , but does ruble has the same issue? I don't know , if you know please let me know.

So what if China remain a strong backup for sino Russian side and Russia emerge as another overt superpower ( with covert back up by China indeed ) and ruble and some other currency can be an alternative source of world trading?

If it's done , I think that dollar dominance will be ended. And you know that the dollar dominance is the primary weapon of the imperist power to dominate the world ; or should I say blackmail the rest of the world? Please write your opinion.

Thank you very much for reading my post with patience and for the very good reply.

Replacing dollar will certainly benefit Russia and help enable a multipolar world, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Or at least not within a year. Is it possible in 5 years? Well world is changing fast and we are living in an interesting period. A lot could happen.

The world economy is still too dependent on US dollar and US will do anything to maintain the status quo. So, it won't come into fruition so easily. Definitely not without a series of "unfortunate" consequences as we have seen for those who tried to do it in the past- Saddam, Gaddafi, Chavez you name it. There will be more wars and unrest. However, this time the threat to dollar dominance is not coming from an individual small country with little power as it had been in the past, rather this time it is backed by a potential global superpower- China. And there are several regional powers like Russia, KSA, and might I add India as well, who are not opposed to the idea of alternative to dollar.

Every empire has its expiry date. If History teaches us anything, it usually doesn't happen overnight. It takes a while before the once mighty empire finally succumbs. The recent developments are the indicator that other powers are going to challenge US dominance going forward. But can US take on all these emerging powers? Only time will tell. We are living in an interesting time.

For Bangladesh, we just need to play all sides, milk them to our benefit and just stay neutral and SILENT. As the Bengali saying goes- "boba er Kono shotru nai".

US ramps up oil imports from Russia, pursues own interests at expense of European allies amid Ukraine crisis

In a contrasting move to its pressuring of European allies to not buy Russian oil against the backdrop of the ongoing Ukraine crisis, the US increased crude oil supplies from Russia by 43 percent, or 100,000 barrels per day, over the past week, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Mikhail Popov told Russian media on Sunday, with critics pointing out that the US pursues its own interests at the costs of its European allies.

According to the Russian official, Europe should expect similar "surprises" from the US.

"Moreover, Washington allowed its companies to export mineral fertilizers from Russia, recognizing them as essential goods," Popov added.

The US and European allies have been exploring banning imports of Russian oil since Russia-Ukraine conflict started, despite the fact that Europe relies on Russia for crude oil and natural gas.

Europe faces pressure from both the US and the UK to impose a ban on Russian oil. Britain has announced that it would phase out Russian oil imports by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, US Treasury has set deadline to end deals on oil and coal imports from Russia until April 22.

Cui Heng, an assistant research fellow from the Center for Russian Studies of East China Normal University, told the Global Times that the US policy toward Russia is centered on two aspects - one being liberalism to counter Russia's political system and collective ideology and the other being pragmatism to serve US national interests.

"Out of the need to ideologically confront Russia, the US woos allies to sanction Russia, while out of the need of reality, the US buys Russian energy at a cheaper price and sells them to Europe at a higher price to serve the interests of domestic oil interest groups. In the end, Europe becomes the victim - European wealth flows to the US and helps consolidate the dollar's advantage against euro," Cui said.

US liquefied natural gas exports rose nearly 16 percent last month to a record high, according to preliminary Refinitiv data, with shipments to Europe continuing to dominate.

US LNG is in high demand as European countries try to cut gas imports from Russia after its military operation in Ukraine, while also looking to rebuild diminishing inventories.

Local media reported that Europe has been the top importer of US LNG for four consecutive months, taking about 65 percent of US exports.

In a joint agreement, the US announced on March 25 to provide at least 15 billion cubic meters more of liquefied natural gas to Europe this year, seeking to end the bloc's dependence on Russian energy exports. These additional volumes of LNG are expected to increase going forward, the White House said in a statement.

Mick Wallace, a member of the European Parliament, tweeted a video of his parliamentary speech, saying that Europe should indeed wean itself off its dependence on Russian energy, but must not replace it with "filthy fracked Gas" of the US, which has invaded other countries more than any other country in the world, according to media reports.

Analysts said the biggest beneficiary from Russia-Ukraine crisis and ban on Russian oil is the US while some netizens mocked the US move as ensnaring its European allies.

"I believe the target of the US [in sanctioning Russia] is not Russia at all, but European countries," commented one Chinese netizen.

By buying oil from Russia and reselling it to Europe, the US can make a profit, said some Twitter users.

Ukraine War Shows West's Dominance Is Ending as China Rises, Blair Says

LONDON (Reuters) - The Ukraine war shows that the West's dominance is coming to an end as China rises to superpower status in partnership with Russia at one of the most significant inflection points in centuries, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said.

The world, Blair said, was at a turning point in history comparable with the end of World War Two or the collapse of the Soviet Union: but this time the West is clearly not in the ascendant.

"We are coming to the end of Western political and economic dominance," Blair said in a lecture entitled "After Ukraine, What Lessons Now for Western Leadership?" according to a text of the speech to a forum supporting the alliance between the United States and Europe at Ditchley Park west of London.

"The world is going to be at least bi-polar and possibly multi-polar," Blair said. "The biggest geo-political change of this century will come from China not Russia."

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has killed thousands and triggered the most serious crisis in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when many people feared the world was on the brink of nuclear war.

President Vladimir Putin says the West has declared economic war by trying to isolate Russia's economy with sanctions and the Kremlin says Russia will turn to powers such as China and India.

The war in Ukraine, Blair said, had clarified that the West could not rely on China "to behave in the way we would consider rational".

Chinese President Xi Jinping has continued supporting Putin and criticised sanctions "abuse" by the West. Putin has forged what he calls a "strategic partnership" with China.

China in 1979 had an economy that was smaller than Italy’s, but after opening to foreign investment and introducing market reforms it has become the world’s second-largest economy.

Its economy is forecast to overtake the United States within a decade and it leads in some 21st century technologies such as artificial intelligence, regenerative medicine and conductive polymers.

"China’s place as a superpower is natural and justified. It is not the Soviet Union," said Blair, who was prime minister from 1997 to 2007. Its allies are likely to be Russia and Iran.

The West should not let China overtake militarily, he said.

"We should increase defence spending and maintain military superiority," Blair said. The United States and its allies "should be superior enough to cater for any eventuality or type of conflict and in all areas."

Arey, Tony Blair kichu Jane na. This expert analyst in PDF know better. That's why he was predicting Russia going bankrupt because of sanctions alone, that too within one year!

Kidding aside - completely agree with Blair on the statement below. China has the financial and military muscle to influence the world more than Soviet Union ever could. USSR was plagued with inefficiency owing to it's communist model. China doesn't have to worry about that.

"China’s place as a superpower is natural and justified. It is not the Soviet Union," said Blair
