QUETTA:

A Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senator in Balochistan has disclosed that Baloch insurgents are willing to negotiate with the government about the possibility of joining the federal framework.

While talking to the media here on Monday, Senator Haji Lashkari Raisani said that he was approached by a Baloch separatist leader – known to be involved in insurgency in the province – about entering the political mainstream.

“A separatist group, waging insurgency in Balochistan, contacted me and agreed to work out a peaceful struggle within the framework of Pakistan,” Lashkari told The Express Tribune, after speaking to the media.

Although the PPP Senator declined to name the Baloch leader, he said: “[It is] the leader who is in self-exile and is leading an insurgent group in Balochistan”. He also categorically stated that those who contacted him were not involved in targeted killings or the killing of innocent people.

“They did not impose any conditions or place any demand but expressed their willingness to continue their struggle within the framework of the Constitution,” said Raisani, who is also the former Balochistan PPP president.

The senator said that he sees the breakthrough as a major initiative that will help in normalising the situation in Balochistan. He added that he would hold a meeting with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani soon to further discuss the matter.

“If this development is successful, other separatist leaders will also join the negotiations,” he predicted.

Balochistan is currently facing the fifth insurgency since Pakistan has come into being. Targeted killings and attacks on security forces and economic installations have intensified in the province after the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti in 2006.

The government has repeatedly made claims of launching a reconciliation process in the province, but no such move has been substantially initiated.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Raisani, in a statement, welcomed the development and said it bode well for the future of Balochistan.

I dont think so...
if they continue there fight against pakistan they can get more support from our enemies.
we have to accept them and encourage them to stay within political system.
if they are delt well other separatist would also be thiking.....

. .
The so called freedom movement wasn't going to succeed anyways, now if these guys have realized the reality and want to negotiate, I think we should negotiate with them.

.
its will be good to have them back, they are our brothers.
Corrupt Govts of Pakistan always ignored their needs and development in Balochistan. While we have fully utilized the resources of Balochistan for our needs and most of Baloch areas couldn't even get their basic necessities.

We must shake hands with them once again and start development in Balochistan but must not compromise on any kind of further freedom movements and violence.

Exactly my point. The Baloch should be given control and authority over their land and resources but without any compromise on any violence and secession movement.

.
Good. We all are brothers and need to talk. Baluch have issue with there rights etc and i am 101% agree with them. What ever is taken from there area has to be used on that area.

Welcome to every one,

dair ayad, Darust Ayad.

I hope the government is more than generous to Balochistan.
There is nothing wrong with talks and with time and actions we will wash away the hateful past.

InshAllah.

The actual development took place in Mush era. The so called baloch sardari system (by handful of baloch feudals) were obstacle in the said development. There were many areas which even did not have electricity. If somebody have been to Pasni before construction of Makran coastal highway, would be in a position to feel the difference.

It is a good move indeed. We need to take them on board while deciding fate of the area where they live, all of their grievances should be settled amicably. and I hope that this will actually happen.

the truth is that Balochis love Pakistan, its only few waderas who want to rule these tribal people and they do not want them to get education or anything like that, these separatists are less then 15000.

.
Baloch people should allow the media in and let the people not their sardars communicate with the pakistanis. Why doesnt media apoint reporters from the area. These people can help hear rest of pakistan the issues balouch are facing

the Sardari System is centuries old...its their way of life, since from the beginning Balouchistan was not treated well...and musharraf did the most damage in recent years not only by killing their leaders and humiliating but also by holding up royalty of the natural resources rest of the country enjoyed from Balochistan...

however, as I said Zardari is playing really well, he introduced reforms in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, FATA and now Balochistan... and Yes played very well in Sindh through Zulfiqar mirza... anyone likes it or not, he is very dangerous and ambitious...

The main reason the ferrari are wanting to talk peace, is because the Swiss "refugee" - was/is loosing his BLA (and other a,b,c's) active service units, to targeted intel "terrorizing the terrorists" the Quetta brigade of the BLA has been decimated - with most cadres captured or liquidated. Other "brigade's" have been thoroughly infiltrated with informers.

The "refugee" is terrified of the "long arms" of the company grabbing him in the land of the swiss cheese. ;)

.
Problem is.. the terrorizing the terror units is creating more enemies within the local populous.
So while terrorizing we may end up with another people's BLA. Although population and ethnic disparities may not allow them to achieve succession.. returning to the status quo will also be a lost option.
One can then throw the idea of a reintegrated Balochistan out the door.. unless the Pukhtoon population is enhanced.. and made to spread.

The Balochis grievances must be addressed on a grass roots level.. instead of dealing with sardar's.
A clothed, fed and educated man is happy and will not fall for nationalistic ideals so long as his needs are met.
