Strange because South Indian Muslims speak Urdu at home and with other Muslims, cite Urdu as mother tongue in school records but Banglas despite being separate from India are clueless about Urdu. @jamahir is one such Urdu speaker. @Areesh is another.

Seriously. I have met quite a lot of bangaldesh who have never been to Pakistan or India and are very fluent in urdu. I always ask them the question how come they know urdu? And isn't lnaguage the only reason you built your own country?
And now when free to practice your wn language you speak urdu. Or atleast know. I mean learning English and eurpeon language is fine if you have to go there but urdu. I mean there are no jobs or stuff in india and pakistan where it is applicable.
It is india influence in your culture and language.
What a makafat e amal. You made a country to practice your own religion and culture and dress. Yet all of you end up speaking urdu /hindi, wearing shalwar kameez which you call punjabi I guess and even women shunning saris for shalwar kameez.
And adopting all cultures except your own

You have attained some wrong perception by looking them to speak their socalled Hindi/Urdu which is very funny and corrupt. It only happen when some Bangladeshi meet an Indian or Pakistani and try to converse with them with their language to impress them by taking advantage of their own exposure to Bollywood movies, songs and Hindi tv serials. Bangladeshi people among themselves never talk in Hindi/Urdu. You would never find in any incidence in Bangladesh when two Bengali are conversing in Hindi/Urdu or any use of written form of that language anywhere in Bangladesh except may be in Bihari refugee colonies.

Many Bangladeshis, wrongfully think that, if they add 'Hein' at the end of every Bangla sentence that it would become Hindi/urdu. Such as Chalta hein, khata hein, Bujhta Hein etc. There is much commonality between Bangla and Hindi/Urdu language vocabulary, sentence structure also very similar. So it is relatively easy for a Bengali to pick-up Hindi-Urdu provided some exposure with that language. Unfortunately large nubmer of Indian tv channels penetrated in every household in Bangladesh thanks to satellite Dish. Hindi movies are banned in Bangladesh from showing in cinema hall but widely available in form of DVDs and in Youtube.

Sari is a hazardous cloth for woman to wear in a day to day basis and it's use is declining in the entire Sub -continent , not only in Bangladesh. Even in Southern India like Tamil Nadu, young women largely adopted Salwar Kamiz. In South Asia, societies are still not that open to allow women to transition from Sari to Western clothing, but they don't mind adopting Salwar Kamiz which is also considered as modest clothing for women.

In Bangladesh, men do not wear Salwar Kamiz. Panjabi-Payjama which is used in Bangladesh mostly in religious occasion and most commonly worn by Mullas, is not Salwar Kamiz. See the difference.

Nothing sexier on a subcontinental woman than a sari draped nice, with a well fiitted blouse.

All this shalwar etc is foreign to these bloodlines.

Essentially, women do not wear pants.

Even in war, our women pulled the sari up between the legs and tucked it in at the waist behind.

It's called kashtha style navvari sari among the Marathas.

I've met countless Pashtoon people in Karachi who cant speak Urdu nor they understand it, Plus you will see in many Hospitals in Karachi where lots of people come from all over Pakistan, and many old women/men have someone translating thing to them in their native language.

Same here man. The hospital thing.

Being from the armed forces, and not local, our docs oftentimes need local translation help. And learning a few key questions (Kai traas aahe).

But even without that, you can pretty much survive throughout India with Hindi. It's the de facto link language for 1.4 billion people.

250 million is a much smaller number.
