DUBAI: Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said on Saturday that a number of terrorist operations have been thwarted, and 116 Iran-backed terrorist elements have been arrested.

“The roles of terrorist elements have varied in planning, preparation and execution between explosive carriers and field outlet, they were responsible for manufacturing, transporting and storing explosive materials,” the interior ministry said.

Leaders and employees of the security services, patrols and buses transporting security forces were targeted, as well as oil and vital facilities, all caused to disrupt security and order, hit the economy and endanger the country's security and safety, the ministry stated.

“Iran’s Revolutionary Guards worked to form these terrorist elements by uniting several terrorist organizations and collecting them in a single framework and are behind the support, funding and training of elements of terrorist organizations,” it continued.

“Iran's Revolutionary Guards have intensified recruitment of terrorist elements and provided them with funds, firearms and improvised explosive devices.”

48 out of 116 terrorists trained in IRGC camps in Iran and its foreign arms in Syria and Israel.

Manama — Bahrain arrested 116 terror suspects in a series of anti-terrorism operations, the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Saturday.

The arrested suspects are involved in a range of terror crimes, including planning and executing terror attacks as well as manufacturing, storing and transporting explosive devices.

Comprehensive investigations have revealed that the suspected terrorists were members of a network formed and supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC).

The network was planning to target Bahraini officials, members of the security authorities and vital oil installations, with the objective of disturbing public security and harming the national economy, the BNA said.

As a result of the investigations, security forces were able to disrupt the network’s activities and limit the movements of terrorist operatives.

By providing material, recruitment and training support to terrorists, the IRGC and its affiliates, including in Syria and Israel, are directly responsible for the intensification of terrorist activity in Bahrain, the BNA said.

The investigations revealed that terror cells within the network were operating under the supervision of IRGC-affiliated groups and fugitive terrorist leaders in Iran, Syria and Israel.

The main terrorist leaders include Aqeel Al Sari, Murtadha Al Sindi and Qassim Al Muamen. All are responsible for recruiting terrorists , arranging firearms and explosives training for terrorists, establishing secret warehouses and hideouts, and supplying terrorist groups with funding, firearms and explosives to carry out attacks.
