No countries would buy two similar 4.5th-generation mediumweight fighters at the same time. Why?

Budget is always limited to any country. You have to make a choice.Ok but BD has unique geopolitical environment.
It needs Chinese arms for India and Western arms for Myanmar.
BD does not see itself as allied to either West or China and does not want to become completely dependent on either.

How much does India pay for 36 Rafale? Not for BD as it has a relatively large and fast growing economy.
The 16 plane MRCA to be announced first half of this year will almost certainly by Western but expect J-10CE contract to be announced soon after.
J-10CE unit cost and munitions are around half to two-thirds of Western aircraft and so it will not break the budget.
BAF has a plan for 160 4+/5 gen fighters for 2030 and so two plane order is feasible.

Would they be upgraded to F-16V? That is really not cheap...16 refurbished F-16 Block 50/52 for 30 million dollars each

If MAF upgades its JF-17M to JF-17 BLK III standard with AESA radar, what would you do?Most likely not as India would be against it and it is not necessary.
BAF only needs a small amount(16) of Western fighters to take care of Myanmar. Refurbished F-16 Block 50/52 with AIM-120C7 is more than enough to take care of MAF.

So, just as what I said before, it is really not cheap...Ask US to fit AESA radar on F-16s + AIM-120D missile.

Better than J-10 fire birdSo, just as what I said before, it is really not cheap...
US Congress/pentagon will not approve it.Still quite cheap as the package will be 20 million US dollars for the whole upgrade and so 50 million US dollars per plane.
But right now there is no need to worry as MAF only has JF-17 Block 2 and it will be at least 5 years before they get Block 3 as Pakistan itself does not have it yet.
You forget that BD defence budget grows at 7-8% a year in real terms every year and so even after 5 years the budget is 50% larger.
Good luck...Still quite cheap as the package will be 20 million US dollars for the whole upgrade and so 50 million US dollars per plane.
Where is your F-16 now?But right now there is no need to worry as MAF only has JF-17 Block 2 and it will be at least 5 years before they get Block 3 as Pakistan itself does not have it yet.
