BAF Chief wants high quality combat Aircraft

If it is any consolation, I think that Bangladesh is not in as big of a geopolitical pickle as the people here think. True, Myanmar is unfriendly, but I don’t see all out war breaking out in the near future since internal strife is still a major concern in the country, now exacerbated by a new coup attempt. India is not interested in militarily conquering Bangladesh and is more interested in trade and investment. It will be foolish for them to open a new front after antagonizing China and Nepal.

Without understanding the politics of Bangladesh, I think that economic development is probably more important than military acquisitions at this stage of the country’s development. China had to make do with using J-6 (MiG-19) and J-7 during the 1980s when there were much higher military pressure from the Soviet Union. But Deng still demanded that the military should wait and built up the economy and industry.

Yes but China had thousands of J-6 and J-7s during the 1980s and spent an average of 6% of GDP on defence during the 1980s and also had nuclear weapons.

BD today spends just 1.5% of GDP on defence and should at least aim for military parity with Myanmar, a country with just 1-5th -1/4 of its GDP.

Bangladesh’s battles are more on the economic front in terms of exports and investments - where it is performing admirably. These military ambitions are probably a matter of pride more than anything else. Unless they want to join the Anti-China coalition at some point to toe the Indian line if asked.

Well that's the main reason ( bold part of quote ) we have to be very strong militarily , because if we were forced to join ( as Bangladesh won't join Indian coalition if not compelled ) the anti China coalition, many people will spread that we happily joined the anti China coalition.

On the other hand if we join the Chinese coalition, we won't get the honor of a stronger ally ,who can show middle finger to India.

In the end no one bet on a dead horse. And That's why ,

Bangladesh’s battles are more on the economic front in terms of exports and investments - where it is performing admirably. These military ambitions are probably a matter of pride more than anything else.
Surely the military ambitions aren't a matter of pride only , but it's necessary to live with honor, and also necessary to protect economy.
