I am sure that Gripen E is off-limits as US wants BAF to buy US aircraft, most probably refurbished F-16s.

Such a shame as the Gripen E with Global Erieye AWACs would have been the ideal fighter/AWACs combo for BD.

F16 is not bad. If US is offering without us requesting then the strings will be minimal. We could do a lot worse.

Heres hoping we fly under its rader.... US is the most influential country for BD anyhow. Would it be much different.

If US indeed wants to sell, it will surely be brand new. Lockheed Martin is trying to keep it's production lines open for few more years.

SAAB has Volvo RM 12 engine to power Gripen, which though is based upon US engine, don't think US will mind. It will still make money in license fee, subsystems and armaments. USA won't block a Gripen sale, you can rest assured of it.

You need a fighter from strong backer.. A super power selling weapons to you means you are in their good book. Thailand stopped buying gripen after initial purchase and gone back to usual f-16.

I am not really sure gripen will be the best. Don't forget the latest F-16, they are more likely than not better than gripen. US outclasses everyone else in military tech.

The only problem with USA is that they dont give much importance to our political leadership. Our leaders cant secure equal respect from white house.

Gripen E is just as good as any F-16 and much cheaper to operate.

It also is armed with EU munitions like Meteor BVMRAAMs which means that the US cannot blackmail you too much once you have it.

US keeps best tech for planes like F-22 and it's own version of the F-35.
