Badminton: Pakistan beat India to win doubles title in Nepal

LAHORE: Pakistan badminton duo of Irfan Saeed & Azeem Sarwar won the Men’s Double title in the Nepal Annapurna International Badminton Championships defeating Indian pair at Kathmandu, Nepal on Wednesday.

They beat Anjan Buragohain & Ranjan Buragohain from India by 21-16, 21-15 in the final in which they outshone them in all departments of the game, said the information made available to APP here.

In the Men’s Single event Murad Ali of Pakistan reached in the semi finals and Azeem Sarwar reached in the quarter final of the championships. – APP

Was this India strongest badminton players?

Doesnt seem like a big stage tournament to me.

thats what I thought, its like India beating pakistan at squash (even tho that sport is dead)
Its not as big as it was (which is very sad) but its not completely dead. Every now and then i get news about emerging players winning some squash tournaments here and there so i hope things get better. Its a damn good sport.

But it was not a big tournament where top players participate. To put things in perspective, the two indian brothers who made it to finals rank not even in top 1300 globally.

I am surprised this is news for Saama with the headline Pakistan defeats India. Its a corporate tournament held in Nepal. No ranking points.
