Pak Army can shoot down drones, they shoot Indian Heron drone in the time of Gen. Musharraf & it is a clear proof that Pak Army can do it. They (Pak Army) clearly said it in the time of PPP when they were questionly Pak Army in the Parliment few years ago. When Pak Army said we can shoot them down just give us the order then these wh*re politicians went quiet like lantys.

Urdu media reporting JF-17 also took part in this exercise

Yes they do..but it costs a LOT of money to keep the SAAB and ZDK systems in the Air at all times. Then , these systems will have to vector fighters in.. which means more money if you have standing CAPs like in the Afghan war. Even if you do vector fighters they will take time to get there which might allow the drone to be done and gone with its work, then if you do make it on time you have to ensure that he wreckage falls inside Pakistan.. Which reduces the probability of actually making a successful intercept. In other words, Sonay se ziada garhai mehngi..
It is not cost effective at all. SAMs with Mobile Observers(humans with binoculars or IR imagers) sitting at key peaks are the best bet to catch them and that too when they drop down low for a hellfire attack. That too is fickle as they usually dont need to go below 15000 ft which is beyond the range of most of our MANPAD systems.

Ye Dosti.. Ham nahin Torien gaenn...
Torieng gey dum magar.. tera saath na chorhien ge.!!(This line may not be so good here as the COAS is retiring).

Good to see a more comfortable Atmosphere between the Chief and the PM than the last government and for all it is Nawaz Sharif is more attuned to the Defence needs than other leaders.

@Capt.Popeye
Looks like the concepts of Joint warfare are pretty close knit here as well now..

Yes indeed, they seem to have take root now; looking at how Nawaz Sharif is sitting side by side with the COAS in an open jeep..........that the concept of Joint Warfare is certainly taking off!

@Oscar speaking on a serious note now; the systems of Warfare have to evolve with the times. The present day scenario of Wars only allows for swift and hard killing blows (in the hope of some decisive results); far removed from 'slugging matches' that took place earlier.

Even the composition of Forces have undergone transformation. More support arms intrinsically built in to Formations that are leaner and pared down from yester-years. The first model of these were the Indep. Airborne Units which grew out of Para Units. Then that was replicated in Mech. Units. So its an ongoing process which needs ever finer tuning.

And any Service that thinks that it can fight a War alone; will have some very cold and hard realities to confront with!

And we can all thank the United States of America for this.

They have literally changed the face of Modern Warfare. 'Operation Desert Storm' was the perfect demonstration of transition from 20th to 21st Century Warfare. The Americans demonstrated that an interlinked fast moving enemy with accurate firepower can do far more damage than putting massive numbers on the ground. It demonstrated how far the Americans were compared to the rest of the world, the exceptions were off course the Soviets.

The rest of the world has only now started playing catch up. The real jolt was for the PLA, who were relying on their massive numbers to thwart any foreign Army.

how long did it take to build-up troops for DS. months. it was massive and overwhelming numbers which did it. who knew that the iraqis will succumb in 100 hours. no real jolt really. massive numbers combined with high tech weaponry will win - almost always!

Spot on @fatman17 sahab.
Coupled with the fact that one of the adversary Armies was built more on political idealogy, and less on Military Training. So it fell "like a House of Cards" even though it existed in substantial numerical strength.

Question: Since Nasr's test was conducted right after Azm-e-Nau 4 concluded, can it be assumed that the test was a sort of exercise and was a part of Azm-e-Nau 4? Also consider that every concerned official (COAS, DG SPD, Commander ASFC, Chairman NESCOM) was present there too.

The article is sort of funny but jingoistic at the same time. The military attaché would gladly be interested in what is being shown but as such this is a scripted show and everyone knows what is to happen. The other attache's poking fun may have more to do with the Indian Attache's odd position rather than the actual prowess of Pakistan's forces.
