Avro Arrow The Fighter Canada Could Have Built

The CAD mode made a mistake in real pictures the blue and the red a much closer together... but I don’t know what that means

thanks for info that you knew. Red White and Blue were the colors on that Pearson flag plus both the UK and France (founder nations). Still, me being suspicious, now wonders if the designs actually originated in and were purchased from somebody in France.

Arrow was ahead of its time. Its Iroquois engines put the Americans to shame. On top of that, it had a flight control computer. Simply a masterpiece.

Another interesting outcome of the Avro Arrow program is the brain drain caused by its cancellation.

With the Aroow being the only ambitious and absolute cutting edge engineering program in Canada at that time, it's cancellation scattered the skilled human resource across the world.

A large number of maverick engineers joined the US space program - Mercury, Gemini and Apollo and served in key leadership and engineering positions. They brought a unique outlook and added to the diversity of the programs.

A great example would be John Hodge. He joined NASA's Space Task Group in 1959-60 and served as deputy to Chris Kraft, NASA's first flight director and head of the mission operations division. Hodge later went on to serve as lead flight director and head of the mission operations division. He also worked on the International Space Station and in the US Department of Transportation.

This is a perfect example of how lack of opportunities at home causes skilled human resource to bleed to other countries.

A lesson for our national leadership.
