Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

Can anybody tell me that;

Is there Geological survey section exists in Army engineering core or out of engineering core which can give advices to troops about geological situation of area, weather conditions and possible climatic threats on daily bases or weekly bases?

My point is: Being stationed in Siachen why weather conditions and ice thickness ratio on mountains are ignored and didn’t come into notice?

I read these lines on another forum and i wanted to share them wid u

They weren’t just 135 men! They were 135 families! 135 promises! 135 brothers fighting harsh climates that would freeze lava to ice! Leaving birthdays and funerals, bearing hurt and being misunderstood! Together for one cause, regardless of language and ethnicity. Now, stuck under cold white snow.
Snow, not as white as the blood, nor as cold as the hearts of the people they defended!!
May Allah Have Mercy on you, and upon 'us'!!

Just spoken to Brigadier Atiq at the ISPR......sadly nothing new to report as no recovery has yet been made.
The ISPR website would be updated in next ten minutes.

Bad :( Allah Pak reham farma .ameen

Pls keep praying people !!

Any idea how much they are away from actual building..
and do they are making vertical tunnels ot removing ice from side ...
There are ways where you drill vertically and insert pipe ... like engineers did in Peru (it was mine but same technique can apply for snow) , here if you know exact location of building , one can insert pipe in it with attach camera or sensors )
Same technique is used widely in Antarctica by russian experts.

Question to photographers, why does the snow look all dirty compared to the snow in the background?

Is the background snow so bright that the camera is compensating the foreground by making it too dull?

That's because the snow carries soil and gravel, it's the solid particles that make it appear grey. Whereas the snow in the background is fresh from last night.

Upper ice untouched layer ever gives shine and actual colour but if you observed in photos, colour changed only where machines are working to find dead bodies and it is because of mixing of lower layers when rocky soil also made them dull. Check post No. 1041 first image and then second image.

Ice colour is unchanged and remain white even in human movement or machine working only in conditions when there is continues or heavy snow falling.

The area between the camp and the glaciers mouth was about a km of rocks, earth and gravel. What may have started as an avalanche seems ultimately to have turned into a landslide enveloping all the lose rocks and soil in it's wake. Check out the surface in this image.

A new sixth spot has also been added to the already five already being excavated, on the advice of the experts. Now whether they were foreign experts or Pakistani I dont know yet.

Siachen tragedy: Massive relief, rescue efforts afoot

RAWALPINDI: Another priority point (Sixth Site) has been added to the search and rescue work, which is under way at already five identified points, says a press release issued by ISPR here on Thursday.

At present 15 heavy machines which include Dumpers, Dozers, Excavators and Loaders are working at the search site.

At point one, excavating has gone down up to 115 feet. Work will start at 130 feet long horizontal tunnel with a dia of 3 meters to attain access to the accommodation area, while at point two, excavation work has gone down to 100 feet.

A 450 meters long access track has been developed and improved by adding sub grade to improve traction for wheeled plant equipment on the avalanche to access the priority points.

The work on both main access tracks has been carried out to increase the total length to 1.5 kilometers.

The weather continues to be harsh and unfriendly, posing operational and administrative difficulties for both men and machines busy in the rescue operation.

However, the trying weather hazards and colossal work at hand have not been able to flinch resolve of man busy in the rescue efforts.
