Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

Search operation in Gyari completed: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday announced that the search operation in Gyari sector of the Siachin Glacier had been completed.

The search operation for recovering dead bodies of the 140 Pakistan Army troops, which trapped under the heavy ice rubble due to land sliding in Gyari Sector last year, has been accomplished after fourteen months of extensive work.

In this regard, the Director General ISPR Major General Asim Salim Bajwa in his Twitter message from Skardu, announced the accomplishment of the operation which was underway for the past 14 months. During the operation, Pakistan Army troops and engineers, regardless of severe climatic conditions, rendered their untiring services day and night, he added.

The DG ISPR further said a tribute will be given to these martyrs in a ceremony on Monday.

It is pertinent to mention here that on April 7, 2012 the headquarters of the 6 Northern Light Infantry Battalion was destroyed due to an avalanche. As a consequence, all of the 140 troops and civilians deployed were martyred. The bodies of the martyred were recovered and formally handed over to the families and buried later with complete military protocol attached.

A large number of Pakistan Army men and engineers took part in the operation and recovered the bodies of with the help of heavy machinery. inp

The people who were saying that,it's just a futile effort , might end up in another calamity and is nothing but a huge risk. So, where do you stand today?
The brave soldier of this nation took the task and evacuated all the bodies with success. All dubious calculations went flat. While the determination and courage to complete this momentous, humongous and treacherous task brought the fruit and fulfilled the promise.

The operation is a success, no doubt.

But it should also be clear that the rescuers themselves were at risk from both the conditions and the work, and were lucky indeed. We should thank Allah that no further tragedy occurred, which could have added to the tragedy.

Leaving aside the cost of the recovery, disturbing honored remains for reburial after over a year is debatable.

The Glacier had spent its fuel..there couldn't have been any further danger from glacier itself..

The tragedy was huge, but the recovery operation was a great lesson in determination too. Hats off to the entire team. I hope all bodies were recovered in the end.

As mentioned earlier.... the operation that followed was exemplary that showed the courage, determination, will and commitment Army has for their soldiers and country....

God Bless you all.... You will always live in our hearts......

All the Shuhdah bodies were found na?

may Allah give sabr to their families, hope the families are well taken care off.

I think that a few bodies of the fallen have still not been found, but I do not know the final tally.

All bodies were found. The operation was concluded with the recovery of all bodies.

I must congratulate the Recovery Team once again. Initially I was of the opinion not to dig them all up, given the enormous and difficult task, but I must honestly admit that my estimate was proven wrong by the sheer determination and hard work of the team.

Well done Sirs, very well done!
