Avalanche traps about 150 Pakistani soldiers

This was an unusual event which was difficult to foresee...unless GPS sensors and temperature sensors were embedded and monitored in the glacier....
About 5 million tons of glacier came crashing on them in one go....This was exceptionally rare event...

My thoughts were to see if anything more needs to be done to increase safety for any other forward posts that might be near areas of snow buildup, so that chances of a repeat accident like this are minimized.

well yes..there are always things that can be done..But they need money......
the trouble is that glaciers are still elusive and not much technology exists to predict such events...
May be ultrasonic scan of glacier could have revealed a melting under-surface which acted as lubricant on which a 5 million ton chunk of ice slid down that night.....
But then again it needs specialist equipment and expertise...both PA don't have for glaciers....
This may be an opportunity to train some army officers specialising in glacier studies and after being trained and equipped they can run regular scans of our glaciers....

In Siachen, weather/natural disaster security is the least you will find. Siachen is hostile battlefield meant for no human presence.

Compare them.

Great news for the families of those soldiers. It was no easy task and the will shown by the PA to recover the bodies of these fallen comrades was amazing. Hats off to PA.
