GUWAHATI: Crippled by three waves of devastating flood+ , Assam on Wednesday appealed to China to share hydrological data of Brahmaputra river, which flows through Tibet, with India to help state prepare for the oncoming disaster in advance.

State education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that according to central government, China for "mysterious reasons" has not shared the hydrological data. "We appeal to China to share the data. We are formally writing to central government to continue persuading China to share the data so that we can take early measures in the event of flood," Sarma said.

The two countries have two agreements signed in 2013 and 2015 on sharing of hydrological data of Brahmaputra river during monsoon every year, between May 15 to October 15. The data share by upper riparian state, China, to lower riparian states, India and Bangladesh is essential every monsoon to allow anticipation of the flow of the water and take necessary measures to deal with flooding.

He said that when the first two waves came, beginning in April, there were heavy rain but not in the next wave. "When the third wave of flood (from August 10) hit the state there wasn't abnormally high rainfall neither in Arunachal Pradesh nor in Assam. Where did all the water come from?" he questioned adding that this was a matter that needs to researched, while referring to media reports that China could trigger floods in Assam by releasing water from its numerous dams built across Brahmaputra river which flows in the country as Tsang Po.

According to Indian metereological department, Arunachal Pradesh, from whose foot hills the plains of Assam starts, received 13% deficit rainfall while Assam received 4% deficit rainfall between August 1 and August 23. Only Mizoram and Tripura had excess rainfall during this period. Manipur had 57% deficit and Nagaland received a deficit of 33%.

Sarma said that Indian media have reported about possible designs of China to trigger floods by releasing the water from its dams. "All these could be speculations but the fact is that China hasn't shared the data."

The third wave, which is receding, affected more than 34 lakh population and claimed 71 lives besides killing more than 370 animals in Kaziranga National Park. This wave also displaced over four lakh people and forced them to take shelter in relief camps.

This is new to me, I didn't know China has such Tsunami weapon against India , now India should learn the painful reality that they're depend on China more than we need them. now you want something from us, make us a valuable offer in return.:pop:

. .
Why so worry now? Some Indians say they only get 10% of the water from the Chinese side.

.
China's resources will be used for the benefit of Chinese citizens first.

Indians can wait in line.

Only if they can wait , they're jumping up and down like monkey over this issue. Tibet is like sponge containing a lot of water under the permafrost land, if we squeeze all this water to recover our arid Taklamakan Desert, we can recover 70000 square mile of useful land for farming, china import more and more food from other countries, we will be at the mercy of other if we don't fix this issue.

Why so worry now? Some Indians say they only get 10% of the water from the Chinese side.

They know it's not true, India's agriculture, farming, industrial future is depending on Tibet for water, Tibet is not only water tower of Asia but water generator that suck cloud from Indian ocean to create Monsoon and nourish all rivers. If we plot to divert water and worst create a favorite condition to allow monsoon to pass to China side from Himalaya barrier, India will be over, their economy will be collapsed. They made such 10% of water claim to conceal their painful reality, their government and strategists all know that they're at the mercy of China.

I think China should share the data with the local Assam government, provided that Assam pledges in writing not to share that data with the Indian central government (or whatever India has that answers for a central government).

Of course they'll still share it and break the pledge, but extracting the pledge would be a victory for China and a humiliation for India.

We will share data with Assam government only when we get something valuable in return, China should not longer be generous and let these ungraceful people to step over our head, the message should be clear.

So China need only open all those dams and India will suffer with flood. Interesting.

India should invest in river system instead of arms and rockets.

Though BD is also suffering very bad, but I do not blame China.

It's our fault that we have made our rivers death and no actually work to fix this problem.

.
The only way for India to solve the problem is building a dam higher than Himalaya. Maybe they can flood China instead.

Lol but then if we divert the water to Xinjiang, India will not only get nothing from us but will lose at the same time a huge chunk of their water to China
