BULUAN, MAGUINDANAO— Many leaders in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are complaining that Western countries continue to meddle in their affairs, according to President Duterte.

“That’s the problem with Western countries, the sons of bitches think they’re better than we are. But they know we are more [intelligent] than they are,” the President said.

He said Western countries were trying to “destroy us” when “they teach us what to do.”

Among those who have complained about the interference are Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, he said.

“And Cambodia, they’re pressuring it. Actually in Asean, I’d be frank with you, except maybe Thailand, they cannot get anybody from there,” Mr. Duterte said on the eve of his departure for Singapore.

He said he did not mind being criticized by Filipinos, but not by foreigners.

Western meddling in ASEAN deplored

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte unleashed an expletive-laden tirade directed at Western nations which he accused of interfering with the domestic affairs of Southeast Asian countries.

Duterte went on the verbal offensive a few days before Southeast Asian leaders are to meet in Singapore for the 32nd ASEAN Summit.

Speaking at an event in Maguindanao, Duterte again expressed his disdain over the supposed ploy by the West to impose its values on Asian nations, specifically on Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

‘‘Yan ang mahirap sa Western country, mas marunong ang mga p— ina kaysa atin. Na alam naman nila talaga mas bright tayo sa kanila. Sinisira tayo eh. Tinuturuan tayo kung papaano,” Duterte said.

“Si President Widodo nagko-complain. Si Najib ganun rin. Ang Cambodia, iniipit nila. Prangkahan ko kayo. Sa ASEAN, except maybe Thailand, wala silang makuha diyan,” he added.

“Me? I am for the Filipino period. I am for the Moro period. Filipino ka eh. Kaya tayo magkamukha,” Duterte said.

Duterte will fly to Singapore on Thursday to join the rest of the leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations for the April 27 to 28 summit which will focus on trade wars, the crisis in Myanmar and security tensions in the disputed South China Sea.

West to blame

President Duterte has blamed the West for the rise in terrorism, especially in the Middle East.

“I know that Western nations were to blame for that because they went there to cause trouble. They got the oil of the Arabs and built their countries to prosperity at the expense of the Arabs,” Duterte said in a speech during the ceremonial turnover of about 900 surrendered firearms from various towns held in Buluan, Maguindanao.

He said Western nations caused unrest in the Middle East because they exploited the resources of the people there.

That is why, he said, Arabs hate the West so much.

“And I can understand them because they have reason to do so,” Duterte added.

He also said inflaming the Arabs’ hate was the West’s “arbitrary division” of territories there.

“That was why Iraq invaded Kuwait,” he said.

Duterte also said the West continued to manipulate the region by removing leaders it did not want.

He cited the case of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, whom he said, was removed on the pretext of stocking weapons of mass destruction.

It was also the same case, Duterte said, with Libya’s Muammar Khadaffy.

“And look what happened,” he said.

If leaders of the ASEAN community are voicing their displeasure with the West, especially directing at the USA and both sides of the Korean Peninsula are in high spirit with this Summit taking place right now just show how unwelcoming the Western Empire really are in the eyes of Asians.
