If Volvo Buses ends like this then Indian buses will have no chance.
If there are lots of passenger to get into the bus, all the doors are open hoping that all the passenger has a valid ticket. And during the ride surprise ticket check by a collector is done to catch the ticketless traveller.
This is what happened to the expensive Volvo buses...
In Germany & Holland, Bus ticket bought in the bus are made costlier than that purchase before at station. Also THey offer monthly pass that is quite cheaper compare to daily ticket. So traveller generally have the tickets before hand and have to flash it to the driver. In western countries I do not think the policy of not opening the door until the machine reads the ticket is there. There the passenger comes in... insert the coin and get the ticket or if the have earlier ticket they just validate it after getting into the bus. I am not clear about not opening the door part!!!
