There was an article in Hindu today.... Dono if this been posted in any thread yet....You may find it relevant....

Militant, nationalist, insurgent and violent sectarian groups carried out a total of 1,717 terrorist attacks across Pakistan in 2013 killing 2,451 people and injuring over 5000 in a spike of yearlong violence, according to the Pakistan Security Report, 2013.

Brought out by the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), the report says that compared to 2012, the number of reported terrorist attacks in 2013 posted a nine per cent increase, while the number of people killed and injured increased by 19 per cent and 42 per cent respectively. As in 2012, 61 per cent of the total 1,717 terrorist attacks were carried out by the Pakistani Taliban, mainly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and affiliated groups in which 1,418 people were killed and 3,408 injured. The Baloch and Sindhi nationalists carried out 450 attacks killing 375 people and injuring 835.

The TTP was lethal with 645 attacks in 50 districts, killing 732 civilians and 425 security forces personnel. The militant outfit also claimed responsibility or was reportedly involved in 34 suicide attacks out of 46.

The number of suicide attacks rose by 39 per cent with 46 suicide attacks in 2013 compared to 33 in 2012, 18 of them in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), nine in Balochistan and five in Sindh. Thirty-four suicide attacks were by the TTP and nine by the Lashkar-e-Janghvi.

As many as 498 of the total terrorist attacks were aimed at security personnel, convoys and check-posts and 358 attacks were apparently aimed at civilians. About 212 were sectarian, targeting places of worship, shrines and 198 attacks targeted political leaders, parties and rallies.

There were 78 attacks on educational institutions and 50 on NATO supply trucks and 25 on NGO, civil society members including polio vaccination teams. Journalists, minority communities, and diplomats were also targeted by terrorists.

The report says significant attack tactics used by terrorists in 2013 included improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in 710 attacks, grenades in 122 incidents, rocket attacks -108, sabotage -18, kidnapping-16, beheadings-five, mortar fire-4 and petrol bomb in two cases. In 208 sectarian attacks by banned groups and the TTP, 658 people lost their lives while over 1000 were injured.

The highest number of terrorist attacks- 499 for any one region was reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which also witnessed a rise in sectarian violence killing 706 people. Balochistan was the worst affected by terrorism with 727 deaths in 487 terrorist attacks. Karachi which had one of the worst years in terms of violence, reported 356 terrorist attacks in which 492 were killed while FATA with 293 attacks accounted for 425 deaths.

Overall the country reported 2555 incidents of violence including the terrorist attacks and a total of 4725 were killed with 6932 injured. Violence in the Punjab increased by 123 per cent in 2013, as compared to 2012 while Karachi witnessed a 90 per cent increase. There was a rise of 81 per cent in the number of people killed in 2013 in Karachi. The number of cross-border attacks and clashes increased in 2013 particularly along the Pakistan India border (including the Line of Control and the working Boundary) but the casualties in these attacks decreased, the report said. Most of the cross-border attacks and clashes (66 per cent) were reported from Pakistan’s border with India. About 26 clashes and nine attacks were reported from Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, India and Iran which was 30 per cent more than in 2012. As many as 59 Pakistani citizens including security forces personnel and civilians lost their lives in these incidents, which was 82 per cent less than the killings in 2012.

Militants attacked private and public schools in general and girls schools specially. The highest number of attacks — 51 of the total 78 — took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 17 of them in Bannu and nine in Peshawar. The report says the major actor of instability in 2013 was the TTP and despite the killing of some of its top leaders, the operational capabilities of the group remained intact. Six new groups emerged on the terrorism landscape last year, the report points out, adding that four of them were part of the Al-Qaeda-TTP alliance.

A spurt in suicide attacks across the border - The Hindu

One of the missiles struck a nearby house, killing a five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy, a local administration official added, although security officials could not confirm the civilian casualties.

This will definitely lead to more terrorism.

How terrorists/terrorism work:
They fire behind the civilian shield , when Army response Collateral death happen. The terrorists use this as propaganda mechanism and increase there size. This is how Jihad and communism work..

Nope its not...but I believe if he go to taliban it will be a start...... I am sure taliban will be happy to use IK head as football just like they use head of Pakistani soldiers. And I hope IK will not mind that as they are only innocent tribesmen.
IK become relevent after 2010 .. r u gona blame him for all the deaths before that as well .. if IK is the problem why wasnt the government was able to solve the issue after being attacked like million times b4 2010 ... Btw how can he do peace talks with nbo athurity .. his policy is that first we will get out of this wwar on terror ..then start the talks with tribesmen and then if they dont respond to talk then fight them

No I blame him for his cowardness and not having spine to condem suicide bomb. For blaming everything on drones.

The govt was not able to solve this issue before because taliban have political wings known as PTI and Jamat-e-islami. Who try to delay operations to let the taliban have an easy escape. Which is happening again.

IK "condemn" every attack and if you listen to his speech today he even named TTP and condemn them, as for all of your other accusations your blaming the incompetency of the previous government on 2 party's that weren't in the parliament.

IK is taliban rakaheel simple as that bro he is a pussy just kill him...

A decisive action should be taken... blow the talibastard asshole with everything we got.. helis,arty,tank,jets.. evac the civilians... close the borders ... and slaugher these mofos..
Relax! Don't let raw emotion cloud rational thought processes. What you said above was out of pure frustration which is understandable, but remember what you mentioned is easier said than done. This is not a conventional war where the enemy is identifiable and deployments known. Here you are fighting an 'invisible' enemy where he is not deployed in fixed positions that can be targeted. COIN ops is a different ball game altogether.

Heck bring in conscription... or ask people to volunteer... millions will rise n join the army..

Yes its gonna cause a lot of issues (IDPs n stuff) ... but is probably worth it.. nough is nough.. n oh ... fk politicians...

I agree with your sentiment but the fact is no one (or very few) from our burgurized youth will put up to volunteer and fight for their country, they would rather sit on the lazy butts playing fifa, using facebook all the while more and more of the country is being infected with this cancer of terrorism, I have personally seen many of my friends who previously boasted of joining the army chicken the **** out and go deeper into the pit of ignorance.....the only option we have is to call in the draft as I believe the constitution has a clause for conscription......

first of all the answer was a piece of crap ..ur hatered toward imran is clouding ur judgment .. IK and JI was not in parliment .. didnt have any power or public support before 2010 .. so cant blame him for it ..

Now about blaming drones,it is condem by every party , animensty international, UN and almost all Pakistani ..then why blame imran?

army preffer to do operation summerz .. it is not delayed bcoz of imran khan ..let the summers start ..

It sure is but if the borders are sealed .. The civies evacuated... Scorched earth policy adopted .. I can bet my *** .. These mofos will come back to their senses... Problem with us is that we are a confused bunch .. More confused thanks to talibastardised politicos..

IK should stop putting pressure on Gov and Army for talks ... there are no talks now and anyone asking for talks should be give proper reasons, or put their own children with TTP and ask for talks, we had it enough talks drama now...

IK should ask his sons to come to Pakistan and take part is talks and live in this areas where our kids are living and when TTP kills some of the same in IK kids neighborhood then he should ask for talk with TTP...

Shame on IK and Shame on Nawas ...

Remember the ratio required for fighting an insurgency is 20:1, ie, 20 soldiers for every insurgent. So, if you're up against 10,000 of those yahoos, the army would need at least 200,000 troops which include those for providing logistic support as well as security for lines of communication. This would also include troops to seal the hundreds of kms of borders and hold sanitized areas for an indefinite period or else the insurgents could come back to fight another day.

From where is the PA and paramilitary forces going to get so many troops from? That's the million dollar question! Otherwise, it would be just more of the same. An op here and an op there ain't going to eliminate the insurgency.

As for evacuating civilians from those vast areas of ops, it's easier said than done. Where and how are you going to shift the thousands who would be affected? Make-shift camps? How about their food, water, electricity, hygiene and sanitation? How about the transport required to transport them to camps? You'd need at least 5000 trucks to transport 100,000 people!! And then for how long will they be living in temporary camps?

Further, would politicians like Nawazji and IK allow you to go in for an all out offensive? Peace talks is all they want.

Unfortunately, the security forces have been caught between a rock and a hard place.

if they are just reacting its not enough, insurgencies need to be countered by proactive action.

the army is more than capable of dealing with the insurgents provided the government shows the political will to act and gives the military specifically the army blanket authority during the period of operation, as for the displacement of civilians it has happened perhaps on a much larger scale during the operation in my native Dir, Swat and adjoining areas, the problem was dealt with effectively with even the home owners in unaffected areas giving shelter to the IDPs, once the operation initiates every thing will fall into place but planning is necessary, the insurgency's strength is widely over rated so is their will to fight, the taliban are nothing but a gang of hooligans who acknowlege nothing but power and money, the only thing they understand is the threat and use of force and we should use the so delayed use of force and exterminate these bastards......
