Army orders ALCOTAN Shoulder Fired Anti Tank Weapon System

The PD-7 sight is designed for ALL types of RPG-7 ammunition. So catering for POF made rockets would not be an issue. The other good thing is that this sighting system comes with a night vision attachment as well both in Image Intensification and Thermal technology. So amazingly it will give the RPG-7 the ability to be used at night as well which currently is not even offered in ALCOTAN or any other shoulder fired unguided rocket system. I sure hope Army is wise enough to get this sight inducted ASAP & on priority!
It has a laser rangefinder too. If they can make it smaller and add in an illuminator, they'd have an all-in-one handheld. Those with it can be relied upon to more than just fire rockets, they can guide missiles.

Great news, however I would say we ought to move forward with replacing RPG-7, G3 & Type56. This system can extend the life of RPG-7 for sure which means our Hazrat gets his little wish of soldiers carrying both launcher and ammo together.

Regarding replacement of RPG-7, I believe that RPG-7 remains the best choice in easy carry and 'unguided' rocket systems for Pakistan. This is because the ammunition is abundantly available from more than one source and second coupled with a passive sight like PD-7 it can be lethal day/ night. ALCOTAN is basically a European luxury Pakistan can ill afford. Besides the range difference between ALCOTAN (600m) and RPG7 (500m) is not justified in the huge procurement price difference as well. And finally never buy a weapon whose ammunition is ONLY produced by the MANUFACTURER and is not available anywhere else or is not produced within Pakistan under TOT.

We need a more potent RPG for modern standards. RPG with a better warhead to penetrate hardened targets, or make an improved warhead for rpg-7!

Rpg 7 original penetration power against armour was ranged 300 meters and other soft targets grater than 300 m maybe newer rockets have better range ??

The only fancy thing on the Alcotan 100 is the VOSEL aiming unit. How will the Alcotan fire in case the said electronic unit breaks down or its electronics fried for some reason? The entire unit will be useless. And RPG-7 rockets are far more ergonomically easier to carry in a battlefield then a large and potentially heavier encased rocket.

Forget the aiming unit, if anything goes wrong with the tube OR the project you're SOL in the field. Problem with small, expensive, single-fire machines...but hey they're "disposable".

Just to update and inform, Germany have received their first batch of RGW 90, ANOTHER disposable ATGM system. These things are here for a purpose, the forces have studied and UNDERSTOOD the importance and advantages of disposable systems and that is why BILLION are being pumped into such research and development facility!

A second contract has been signed with Instalaza on 1 June 2017, for Alcotan-AT (M2) rockets & Vosel firing units. Deliveries commenced last month, according to pak.eximtradeinfo.com

Sir with respect every one has the freedom to say anything but one should judge his own skills before commenting on technical aspects especially related to defense items. As in country like Pakistan where you see rarely any defense related programs and even they are of basic nature, meanwhile we get limited know how about weapons from net.

So people giving subjective remarks or passing judgments against Alcotan should also give a brief intro about their own capabilities.

The thread should be better if we discuss capabilities of hired system it's true purpose if we get any info from a professional. I have seen many remarks against many organisations whose work is not well known to public as useless, similarly comparing Alcotan with RPG7 is just like comparing a SPH with an MBT as both have different roles.
