JAMMU: A jawan was killed today in a gunbattle with militants as the army foiled aninfiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Lance Naik Govind Singh was injured in the firing and died while being rushed to hospital.
According to Defence spokesman S N Acharya, army personnel observed a suspicious movement (of militants) along the LoC in Krishnagati sector at around 3 PM and challenged them, after which the militants opened fire.
"A contact was established with terrorists and they opened fire. Lance Naik Govind Singh was critically injured due to gunshot and later died enroute to hospital," Acharya said.
The area has been cordoned off and operation was going on when the last reports came in, Acharya said.

If a jawan is dead, how did army 'foil' the infiltration bid?

If a jawan is dead, how did army 'foil' the infiltration bid?
Because those animals were kept from entering into India.

. . . . .
Not really, unless you are telling me that the jawan died in no-mans land or Pakistani side?
He died along the LoC- admittedly a few kms inside Indian territory but then whose fault is it they got that far without being challenged? Who was snoozing (or looking the other way perhaps) as these animals crossed into India? The LoC is India's first line of defence and is doing a fine job of keeping these rats out, let's not split hairs.

However, patrols do go out in front of the LoC so it is possible this contact was established there.
