Army introduces de-radicalisation centre in Swat
Pakistan’s military drove militants out of Swat in 2009.

Mashal de -radicalisation centre is in the building which used to be the headquarters of the militants from where they imposed there austere version of Islam.

Eventually, the army realised it couldn’t secure long-term peace with bullets alone.

So military officers, trainers, moderate clerics and psychologists were chosen to run three-month courses designed to erase “radical thoughts” of those accused of aiding the Taliban.

School officials say about 1,000 people have graduated since the initiative began two years ago, and that only 10 per cent were not cleared for release.

Thats an interesting approach. Although it would also make for a tempting target by militants. But have they mentioned what exactly is termed as "radical thought"?

Good step indeed. Instead of running around carrying guns like crazies now they can make a living without killing people. Glad to see this.

WOW very nice...our useless government was sleeping when unemployed youth was being exploited for the cause of TTP and AQ terrorist activities now Army moves in to fix the gap and then our politicians have a loud mouth to talk against the army.

I posted a similar thread, requesting mods to merge.

Speaking from India and Western media mindset, one can take this pic and also represent it as a meeting of taliban commanders in Swat..especially when they are wearing millitary style name badge and all of them have the same headcap and beard.

By the way the army had run radicalisation centers 30 years back. Good that they are reversing that policy.
