Army chief asks Ghani for cooperation in tracing Charsadda attackers

I'm familiar with the dynamics of Afghanistan. And your comments just confirms what I'm saying. If Taliban is Pakistan's proxy in Afghanistan, do you think Iran will sit idly by while some group who "got no love for Iran and being strict sunni militia" will sit in power in Kabul? We're not living in the 1990s anymore.

Yes, like the LCA, it will take awhile, but it will get done. :D

I agree. I will like to add China and Russia to the mix too.

The sole reason the minority , the farsawan, the Persian speaking, or the northern alliance, the current Afghan regime, is in Kabul, because of the collective support from whole western civilization, America and NATO, not because India and Iran support to them. Western civilization hold on Afghanistan is waning and when they pack their bags, which they will sooner or later, I dont think anyone in Pakistan will give two cents about so called Indian or Iranian influence in Afghanistan. The last time both India and Iran exercised their collective influence in Afghanistan in support of northern alliance, they found themselves entrenched in a rat hole called Panjsher valley, and that is where their influence end.

Afghan Taliban are not our proxy as such. Its a Pakhtoon movement headed by those who were born and bred in Pakistan during Soviet war. You have to remember that there are more Pakhtoon in Pakistan then in Afghanistan, more Pakhtoon in Karachi then in Kabul. This is something by default not by design. Whether its Taliban, or some rebranded entity or any other mechanism which will eventually put Pakhtoons back in Kabul means Pakistan is back in business. India and Iran to be honest are irrelevant here, they have been made relevant in post 9/11 Afghansitan due to Amreica/NATO/Europe putting their money on same horses which were backed by India and Iran in pre 9/11 Afghanistan. It was a western civilization mistake for which they paid the price and have now it seems come to their senses.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families during this difficult time. It is hard to imagine the pain and suffering of the friends and family at the moment. The readers’ comments clearly depict the rage and anger that presides at this time. We sincerely hope that all those affected may find the strength to get through this extremely difficult time. The ongoing acts of terror prove that the terrorists continue to counter the efforts of both nations to secure and stabilize the region. The importance of shared cooperation was again emphasized between Pakistan and Afghanistan during the recent visit by President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan. We’ve always emphasized the importance of regional cooperation between the regional partners, and the current situation requires both nations to cooperate and coordinate against those who pose a risk to the safety of people in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

This event has been unlike most other terror attacks we've seen in terms of the reaction of the public, it has re-awoken memories of the APS massacre, only this time the shock and sorrow is overtaken by anger and discontent. The reaction seemed immediate, usually in these sort of events, the shock and sorrow precedes all anger and calls for action, not here.

All I know is, we were told that the campaigns conducted since 2014 had been largely successful, and had gone some way in dealing with our issues. I sincerely hope we ditch the US, Afghanistan and all other parties and look after our interests first, we're in it for the long haul unlike those that have already lost interest.

Pakistan could make Afghanistan starve at will, this has been the case for a very long time, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, despite alternative trade routes. I of course don't advocate it at all, just a point to note, Pakistan can apply pressure on the Afghans, they were shielded before, now that the US and all other parties are drawing down their hopes and interest, Pakistan and Iran will become the dominant external parties which is natural and inevitable.

Aren't the Kunar and Nuristhan provinces under taliban control?..The TTP in Afghanistan operates out of taliban held territory, and share men and material between themselves. .apart from sharing the same ideologue according to earlier reports.

on one hand we say Afghan govt exists only in Kabul and areas outside of cities are controlled by taliban and on the other hand we want to bomb Afghanistan if they don't help find the terrorists.

no one can deny Afghanistan is the biggest victim of terrorism ,it has been used, misused abused just because they are weak now. as they say every dog has a day and am sure Afghanistan will be a stable and strong country one day and I am sure no one wants a hostile neighbour.

the things you do today will decide your future,as we can see the things happening today in Pakistan are directly or indirectly because of the past decisions.

people who are advocating bombing the Afghanistan, please go ahead by all means ,they have been bombed thousands of times one more bombing will not make much difference to them.

But its up to Pakistan to act mature or repeat history all over again.

So if Army Chief has asked afghanistan to help, that means Afghan soil was used for this recent attack. Now the same person took the responsibility of Charsadda attack who masterminded APS. So what lessons we've learned?

We asked Afghans to help after APS, and they did nothing. A year after the same person is involved in another attack from his base in Afghanistan, and we are still asking for help?

Just bomb the fcker or at least start talking with them as they are terrorists. Damn these afghans are very canny when they talk about Pakistan but here we are, asking for help. Fittay Mooh.

The thinking that US and Nato will leave Afghanistan this time is idiotic in my opinion, they did not spend billions and a decade there just to bomb people and pack their bags in the end and leave. The current Afghan governance structure is not going anywhere it will remain as such with AT may be part of it (a big may be). I don't know how our leaders think but if it was me I would take Afghanistan as a country with no friends of Pakistan not even the insurgency there........................ both of them have proved it over time they give a sh*t about Pakistan and its people. If it was up to me I will declare it an enemy state and treat it as such, enough with ifs and buts.

Further, if you have seen the video the place where this mastermind idiot presented his justification for attacking universities and schools you would notice the house there is made of concrete blocks, it is in some place where a mode of transportation exists, labor is available to build houses, and there was bright lighting (may be a genset which requires fuel or may be electricity) while they were recording this video, so in my guess the justification for inability and impotency of Pakistani state to act against them saying that...............these rats are hiding somewhere in snowy mountains and we are unable to trace them is a big lie. Pakistan knows where they are and who they are but still it is reluctant and acting impotent to protect its own people, there are some hidden interests and pressures that influence our leadership more than blood of our children and innocent people.

Sadly people of Pakistan as usual are kept in dark and at the mercy of their enemy they don't know and cannot identify. Their fate has been sealed to get killed by these nut jobs in markets, schools, universities, political processions, on roads, in streets, in mosques, in churches and Pakistan's government both civilian and military would act as they have acted in past i.e. like an inept bunch of cowardly, impotent liars full of false promises they sell us.

I said that it before and I will repeat it again, people might disagree specially the "Nonnies", the gravest and biggest challenge to the state of Pakistan, at the present time is coming from the PM house. The man is blinded and driven by his personal business interests, all the rest is secondary. Weather his business interests in India or in London. Which leader will not cut short his foreign trip and rush back home, if his country is hit by terrorist strike like Charsadda? But his highness instead of cutting short, actually didnt bother turing up at all, and instead went to London from Switzerland afterwards, and we all know why. His behind the scene maneuvers to save his partner in crime like Zardari is not a secret.
Nation and armed forces are on one page, but to act in decisive way, you need the civilian government to be fully onboard as well, otherwise, a man who is known to screw up kargil operation politically and diplomatically, can and will do the same in future as well.

If Nawaz shareef was a liability to the state yesterday, he is fast becoming a grave danger to the well being of Pakistan.

It's not Ameer ul Momineen only that is a threat, there are few thousand more who need to be hanged, all these to be Shaheeds should be granted shahdat together so nobody is left to make a shaheed out of other.

This is ridiculous, current Afghan Govt. has done nothing for Pakistan except for accusing Pakistan & openly working with India against Pakistan. Why beg them to do some thing when they will not do anything for Pakistan. It is time to take hard steps & show them that we mean business. Pakistan interests should not be sidelined & it should be taken seriously.
