3 held, weapons seized in Liaquatabad raids

KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) arrested three criminals during raids at a house and a madrassa in Liaquatabad on Wednesday and seized a large number of weapons and explosives from their possesssion. The suspects were allegedly involved in several abduction cases.

DIG Investigation Iftikhar Hussain Tarrar said that the raid was conducted after the police received information that weapons were being stored at a house in Liaquatabad. The joint team of the AVCC and the CPLC that conducted the raids was headed by CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy and SSP Usman Ghani Siddiqui. The locations raided included a house near the Sindhi Hotel and a madrassa known as Faizan-ul-Quran, both in Liaquatabad.
The suspects were identified as Shafiqullah, Noman and Faizan. Two suspects, identified as Imran Yaseen and Amanullah, managed to escape.

The confiscated items include a light machine gun, rocket launchers, a 7mm rifle, an SMG, a 44-bore rifle, two pistols, 1,000 bullets, five boxes of explosive material, eight wiring boxes and religious literature. The police also took three motorcycles and a car into custody. DIG Tarrar said that an initial interrogation revealed that the arrested men did not belong to any political party or militant group. However, the enormous cache of arms that was recovered from their custody suggested links to terrorist organisations.

Hanif Memon kidnapping charges

According to the police, the arrested men were involved in the kidnapping of a constructer, Hanif Memon, on August 27. Memon was released on September 1, after the kidnappers were paid a ransom of Rs780,000. The Aziz Bhatti police lodged an FIR under section 365-A and began their investigation with the assistance of the CPLC. After his release, Memon alerted the police about the involvement of a man named Amanullah, whose house was raided in Liaquatabad. Although he managed to escape the raid, police arrested his father, Shafiqullah. Memon confirmed that the arrested suspect had been present at the house where he was held for several days.

Just in another thread a fellow argued the sympathic cause of madrasas..I say we banish this menance called madrassas and introduce in schools and option subject of advanced islamiat. Those intrested in religion should opt for that.

Am not agree with you
some muslims are terrorist so what do you mean "kill all the muslims"
All fingers are not a like

You are right in principle. But special circumstances need special measures. Madaris are okay for other Muslim countries but unfortunately we have no other choice but to completely terminate them as in our country they are associated with militancy.:frown:
Anyway, Good job by the police.

Well no madrasas = less terrorist = easier to find and kill selectively instead of them hiding in KP and killing many innocents too.

If nothing else, at least private madrassahs should be abolished. They are more of a menace than a blessing.
I was in Multan in 2008 and was passing near Bosan road at about 6 to 7 am when I came across a huge crowd. When I asked what happened they told me that students of two separate madrassahs had gotten into a fight over Halwa(Traditional Sweet Dish) and 4 had been killed.
That's all that madrassahs preach nowadays how to kill and maim.

Plenty of members here who support terrorism.Hell we have members supporting Lal Masjid thugs here and in winder part of Pakistan's Population so it is not surprising this thing is widespread.

Thats really pathetic..Most of these moulvis are social rejects ego maniacs who went their frustation at poor kids. There is no way in hell fighting over halwa could be jihad. These people reflect the ideas of people warned in Quran that they use every oppurtunity to fuel fasad and blood spilling of innocent only to assert their own power.

@aisha khanzada
Most of the madaris are against women using the internet. So please be first to support your favoured people :P

Hang them before the mysteriously escape auction the house and destroy the mad -rassa.

how come this "peaceful" religion with "peaceful followers" allow this? am sure lots of people go to this madrassa.. how come this was caught now? dont you think it is time to introspect?

maybe you should have a center to monitor these madrassas and what they teach.. why dont you guys just take stringent actions against these people?? exemplary punishment.. anyone?

Army does that stuff.

Civil government is too much of a corrupt trash can to do anything or get anything done.

Islam = Religion of Peace. And yet, madrassas are very often also arms caches. Hummmmm. Is it possible that the "Ground Zero Mosque" would also be place where militants cached their arms? RoP = Islam = RoP. Something fishy going on .......
