Armeena Khan under fire for 'periods aren't a big deal' statement on Twitter

Females get periods.

Males get erections.

Sex is an inevitable part of females and males lives.

Let's discuss everything that happens anyways in public domain, shall we?

what the heck is this thread about can someone explain in simple words?

Its about "openness without boundaries"!

But there is a large class of people in India, largely poor and rural where menstrual hygiene is a serious issue.

And is that class being targeted by Instagram and Twitter?

There's a way to educate people and how to (that includes the medium used). Twitter and Instagram is not the right medium to target and educate the illiterate and poor (a large majority in South Asia) who can't afford to buy 2 meals a day let alone surf the net reading up what the so-called celebrities have to say on periods, erections, and whatnot.

I merely have a problem with women wanting to push the matter in our faces when we can neither assist nor provide any relative or beneficial input. Women, who have experience with such matters should rather take up the matter and assist other women who do not have access to sanitation or education in this regard. But it should all be done tastefully, discreetly and with respect.
See brother, this is the whole issue. On one hand we all agree that this is an issue and something should be done about it since it affects almost 50% population of any country.
But on the other hand, we are saying that since its females who get affected with it thus they should sort it out themselves. Alright, not a big deal, women can sort it out. But the point that it should be done discreetly is unfair. Women aren't asking men to help them in spreading the awareness, they are just demanding acceptance about it, they aren't saying 'we will deliberately talk about this issue in front of men'. They are only saying that if these talks are happening then don't feel uncomfortable.
And how do you expect them to spread awareness if we ban channels of mass communication?

I never said that females should sort it out since they are the ones effected. I merely advocate that it is a matter that best be courted in a more personalized, respectful, discreet and decent way. When a HANDFUL of woman want to push the matter in everyone's face, they not only demean themselves, they embarrass the vast majority of women which do not want to speak about their personal matters in front of their fathers, brothers, sons etc.
