I am Punjabi myself, and I know this. Karchiites are no better, but at least they don't kiss Indian ***. Karachi people simply don't give a **** about anyone that's not from Karachi.

By and large, I agree with what you write. But in India there is an additional issue- the idea of periods being taboo- that women are not supposed to do such and things on those days. Such taboos have the potential to harm the social, economic and educational attainment of women and need to be countered. The movie (which I havent seen btw) and the man on whom the movie is based dont seek to glorify periods (as far as I know) but try to create awareness on the subject.

Soul bai ....... I have no issues with the movie if its addressing a genuine issue in India, as I said if it has some idea worthy of implementing and considering, we should borrow it. I understand why its an issue for Indian women and why their males need to be taught about it. I haven't specifically mentioned India but in my initial post to "lastofthepatriots" I had mentioned this is not a taboo for us unlike some societies and culture.

However, people here (sadly Pakistanis) equating Indian society and Pakistani society when it comes to this women issue are totally uttering horsesh*t ....... there is no comparison, no sane Pakistani locks a female undergoing her periods in a corner, we eat the food they cook, we drink the water they give us, for us its their holidays ....... and to be honest with you ...... my female colleagues, and other females who I come across daily ..... don't have to tell me about their periods, I may already know by observing, their habits, their weird behavior and their routine ...... come on its not rocket science, if any female thinks that I don't know she is mistaken ....... but this doesn't mean that I can approach her and start discussing it with her ...... discussing your private matters with others is the problem ...... privacy, privacy why is it so hard to understand?

No sane Indian does either. (But I cant give you any guarantee that a majority of Hindoos are sane.) Anyway it is not drastic, these days the restriction is usually on performing pujas. In older days, they were not allowed in kitchen, but now with most families being nuclear, that is not an option any more. Besides, I suspect, among the poorer lot, keeping women out of kitchen or work was never an option.
