Argentina Considering To Purchase 12 JF17C Worth 664Million Dollars

Well every plane is a "mig 21 " of the future , yes technology does age. It's selling point is that it is the best "value" jet in the market. Per buck it has has the best punch as the Indians found out. The Block 3 is even better and its evolution is making it even better.
Each plane has its niche.
The top layer
Aircrafts available: F35
buyers G-10, Europeans and GCC -given availability-

The upper tier market
Aircrafts available: Typhoon, Grippen NG, Rafale, Eagle EX, Hornet E/F, Falcon 70/V, J-10CE, SU-27/3X.
Buyers: Those denied the access to top tier and emerging middle to high income countries.

Then comes mid tier market
Aircrafts F-16 Block 50/52, Grippen C/D, Mirage 2K, Mig 29, F-15 and F-18C/D.
Buyers: Mostly NATO countries, non NATO countries in south America and Asia

Market for JF-17 Block III lies somewhere in between the thrid and the fourth tier due to its political incompatibility with NATO forces.

Then there's a fourth tier market
Aircraft: JF-17 Block 1/2, LCA, F/A 50, Second Hand MLU F-16s and used Mig 29s and Su-27s.

Sorry but JF-17 is not Grippen NG or F-16 Block 70/V level. It's at best Block 50/52 but still lacks the crucial punch which forced PAF to go for J-10s which are Block 70/72/V /Rafale/Grippen NG level aircrafts. I bet Even PAF would take Block 50/52 if offered in competition with JF-17 Block III.
Hi,

When you make that statement then you also have to state why---.

It is because Paf has a total infrastructure established for the flight & upkeep of the aircraft & again---the US will not let go of pakistan just like that.

The US State Department has cleared

the transfer of 24 F-16s from Denmark to Argentina. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Security in the State Department, Mira Resnick, delivered the letter approving the transfer to Jorge Argüello, Argentina’s ambassador to United States on October 11. Also cleared was the transfer of four P-3 maritime patrol aircraft from Norway to Argentina. The Argentinian government will now have to decide whether to accept the offer from the United States.

It appears that Chinese aren't out of the race yet. CATIC regional director for South America met the Argentinian Defence Minister last week to discuss the cooperation potential.
Plus they just gave 6.5 Billion $s to Agrentinians a couple of days ago.

I think this might be the reason that Argentinians decoupled the P-3 deal from F-16s. It's not over yet, it seems.

argentine will take the US sweet deal.

Argentina is in a bad situation with inflation above 100℅, i doubt they can go with chinese weapons. The US will allow them to take chinese investments but no weapons n defence deals. Also its not about planes but about the weapons package. JF17 with anti ship missiles would always be a worry for UK, chinese ash missiles are very capable. Decision will be taken after elections, if that populist milei wins, then no chinese deal because he is anti china.

Definitely comes down to a post-election decision.

Trump-admiring populist Milei wins in Argentina, edging the country closer to a dollarized economy

After elected nutcase for president of Argentina, you can count that any potential sale of JF-17 to them is of the table, you can close this topic permanently.

.
I think we can close this chapter as Argentinians have gone for old Danish F-16s. Last upgrades on these are probably 20 years ago and while Argentinians got a good deal at $300M, I imagine another $700M needed to get them current given their end of life.

Too bad for the JF17. I am sure beyond political pressure there is probably some relaxing of terms on the debts owed by the country to go this direction.

Anybody heard any update on Azerbijan as all rumor mills still point to articles in late Feb.

Azerbijan would be a complete coup as its the first time a JF17 would be sold to not a destitute country (Nigeria with 3, and what was being Argentina) whose situation is equal or worse than us, or somebody thats a political outcast (Myanmar).

And then maybe Iraq would buy

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Argentina’s defense minister signed a deal Tuesday worth about 2.1 billion kroner ($300 million) to buy 24 of Denmark’s aging F-16 fighter jets.
Denmark is getting new F-35 aircraft, and the sale of the nearly 40-year-old F-16s that “have been thoroughly maintained and technologically updated” means that Argentina will “become part of the global F-16 family,” said the Danish defense minister, Troels Lund Poulsen.
Denmark has 30 operative F-16s. An unspecified number of the remaining jets have been promised to Ukraine as part of a donation.
No date for the F-16s to be handed over to Argentina was announced. They are expected to be transferred in the coming years.
Denmark has ordered 27 F-35A fighter jets, and the switch to them is taking place at the end of 2025.
In March, Poulsen visited Argentina and signed a letter of intent to sell some of Denmark’s F-16 jets. Tuesday’s deal was signed at a Danish air force base.
