Till now it was Saudi Arabia and Iran who were jostling for leadership of the Islamic world. Now turkey has joined in the fray. That is all there is to it. No new hoards of minerals have been discovered in the Mediterranean that some are claiming. Turkey simply wants to revive its Ottoman Caliphate glory. The present political dispensation in Turkey is riding the wave of Ottoman pride. So it is ctrl Alt delete (Kemal Ataturk) - restart. Since Israel and Palestine are the only subjects on which all Muslims agree, that is why this is the chosen area so that Turkey's stature is enhanced in the Muslim world.

Common sense suggests that Israel should call Turkey's bluff. The dispute will fizzle out as Israel and Turkey simply can not afford to go to war with each other. However, even a stalemate will result in a moral victory for Turkey and enhance its standing in the Islamic world which will not be acceptable to some.

I therefore expect Saudi Arabia and USA/Nato to step in any time soon to diffuse the issue. Israel of course has to give some ground to make the deal look palatable. Let us see what happens.

Take a look at the Greece's "surrounding Turkey" strategy(connecting cyprus and greece) and consider the blockade imposed by israel(a self-claim on the waters that doesnt belong to them). You cant have good relations with both israel and the rest of the region. Its obvious which one Turkey chose and Israel is helping Greeks and Greek Cypriots to surround Turkey. Turkey feels it may get trapped and this is the reaction that makes us talk about in this thread.

First of all there will be NO war as Israel is all ready having lots of enemies and surely don't want more(especially like strong Turks) Turkey is a NATO country and any kind of conflicts with Israel will surely put Turkey in the bad books of US which I don't think even Turks want at this point.
