Apple bosses must be on some kind of delirium pill to think that Indians will buy 2nd hand Chinese Apple phones. They need to wake up and learn the reality that India has NO market for Apple.
Actually Apple needs to rethink about marketing iphone in India. They have only 2% market share. More than 120 million smartphones were sold in India in 2015 and sales are expected to touch 200 million sets in next 5 years. Penetration of smartphones is only 35% in India. So, there is room for improvement and growth in India considering that China smartphones sales are stagnating. Same with most of the developed world with people owning more than 2 phones per person.
4G/LTE transmission is being launched in most of the Indian cities and it will encourage smartphones including Apple Iphone sales to new levels.
If Apple wants to target middle and upper middle class in India then they have to come up with products that cater to these sections of people who can afford phones in $100-$250 range. Right now it costs around $500 to $1000 range for the latest Iphone 5 and 6 series.
Right now Apple focus in only on rich and elite. Refurbished phones is one strategy which will work with people who don't mind using used or second hand phones. For others(middle class) Apple has no strategy at present.
