China's computer giant Lenovo may have found its next global acquisition target in one of the two smaller companies to form next year after HP's confirmed split on Monday.

HP's ill-timed acquisition in 2011 of UK tech firm Autonomy has now forced the company to hack down its unwieldy enterprise into two smaller parts.

Industry insiders speculate that HP may seek a buyer of its PC and printing operations, to be known as HP Inc., if the right price comes along. It may do this in order to concentrate its energy on corporate hardware and services, under the auspices of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. If so, there will be no buyer more qualified than Lenovo, China Business Media Corp said.

The timing is right for Lenovo, as it has largely completed integration of IBM's PC business, turning its operation around in 2005, following acquisition in 2004.

Cb.com.cn points out that by putting HP's PC and printing operations under its umbrella, Lenovo will see its global market share rise to 38%, up from 20% now, thereby carving out a dominant presence on the global market, with a comfortable lead over all rivals. By comparison, other leading PC firms have much less motive to take over HP's PC division, in view of limited benefits.

Lenovo planning tablet 'offensive' against Apple

2014-10-11 10:41

China DailyWeb Editor: Qin Dexing

convertible tablet has a 13-inch high-definition touch screen and a projector. The device is clearly targeting business users and filmgoers.

The company hopes the new functions will attract more high-end users, since the global PC market is showing little signs of recovery.

Industry consultancy IDC said on Wednesday that third-quarter worldwide PC shipments totaled 78.5 million units, a year-on-year decline of 1.7 percent. Although the pace of decline was slower than many analysts had estimated, the market remains gloomy.

Jay Chou, senior research analyst at IDC, noted that it was one of the weakest third-quarter sales figures ever.

"The third quarter has historically been driven by back-to-school sales and renewed business purchasing, which were weaker than normal this year," said Chou.

Exports are Lenovo's major profit generator. More than 60 percent of sales revenue came from markets outside the Chinese mainland as of last quarter.

Yang said the company is on track to become the largest PC vendor in Europe, where sales growth hit about 40 percent in the past few quarters.

"The global PC market is worth $200 billion today, but no one can take it all. When competitors decide to back off because of weakening demand, it will be the perfect time for us to grab market share," Yang said.

The EU is the largest Yoga tablet buyer and customers in the US purchased the largest number of Goya ultrabooks. Hewlett-Packard Co, Dell Inc, Lenovo and Apple are competing for higher profit margins by introducing a wider product spectrum that includes tablets and ultrabooks.

The new Lenovo gadgets will compete head-on with Apple's upcoming next-generation iPad products, because both companies' flagship tablets are targeting winter holiday buyers.

Apple is scheduled to debut the new iPads next Thursday. It remains unclear when the long-awaited tablet will be available for buyers in China. The iPhone 6 series faced a launch delay in the country due to belated regulatory approvals.

Lenovo is also acquiring the Motorola Mobility unit from Google Inc to enhance its portable device group.

Yang said the company may launch a Motorola-branded tablet to penetrate the US market.

"Motorola forged a strong partnership with US telecom carriers, making the brand more competitive in the country compared with non-US brands," he said.

Apple is such a horrible company and people who buy into this crap that has as main priority "planned obsolescence" this company literally sells low quality through name and people are falling for this low quality nonsense. A hispter company gone mainstream and the hipsters still think it is something special.

Eventhough I'm a apple hater, I have to admit that I almost bought the IPhone 6.

A week ago I went to a store to play with one and I really liked the IPhone 6 plus. They finally had a big screen.

The only thing that stopped me from buying it was the bendgate issue, plus the fact that I didn't even have enough money.

How do they have "planned obsolescence"?
You can still use old iPhones. In fact you can even upgrade your OS for free. Many Android users with old phones are stuck in an old version hoping for their maker to offer an upgrade.

Nokia come with Windows OS never never been white-black. In September 2013 the Lumia 520 became the best-selling Windows device in the world, selling more units than any other model of Windows phone, PC or tablet
We're difficult to find any Huawei here ...

Planned obsolescence works in different ways, apple uses almost every kind of this method to increase profit.

Offering every half year some new stupid model of an iphone G/S or any version that have essentially nothing changed except overclocked processor or some alterations. That kind of planned obsolenscence creates the feeling of people being backwarded and advertizes to stay "uptodate" which is every freaking year the same crap.

Using low quality materials, not isolating or reinforcing calbes of charger or head phones which tend to fall apart far often than 1-5$ headphones "made in china", using of bad quality case and screen which gets damaged far more often than necessary and inferior to competitors. Designing low quality phones with arrangement that no average guy without understanding of electronics can exchange broken, old or damaged parts by himself leaving him to Apple store fixing of his iphone and overcharging 100 fold for unnecessary work, such designs discourage people of "doing yourself" to fix problems. I am not talking about people who understand how to fix it i talk about the average person reality show watchers who are the main costumor of apple shit.
Leaving older phones with no support or creating the perception that they would be better of with a new phone every stupid year.

A bad company next to EA one of the worst companies in existence.
