Apple's CEO Tim Cook publicly came out as gay on Thursday in an essay for Businessweek.

Writing in Businessweek, Cook said:

While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven't publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.

He goes on to say:

Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It's made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It's been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It's also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you're the CEO of Apple.

Fucking hell. WTF? 'So let me be clear: I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me'.:o:
I couldnt give a rat *** about his private life, but mentioning GOD and saying his gayness is a gift from GOD?? Jeez humanity is indeed heading to an end.:disagree:
Do your stuffs/things/bullshits, but don't justify it on/say its a gift from GOD. Pathetic.

Finally a reason to buy overpriced Apple products. The guy has courage. Well done.

No I understand why so many pink skins for iPhone

Do people make announcements about them being straight? No.

Why the fanfare, Mr Cook? Perhaps a byproduct of being the CEO of a company known for a lot of fanfare and not much substance.

It's actually not very common. Leadership positions do go through scrutiny even in this day and age (probably to avoid controversy). when people like him come out, then it becomes easier for others to be accepted since he has set such a big precedent.

Gotta justify it somehow

No reason why he should not accept everything he has been given as a gift. This is how he was born so this is a gift.

Who cares what he does in his private life?

I'm not very sure that he would have become a CEO if not in a company like Apple. Somehow I get a feeling that though an IBM might be open and accepting of the LGBT community, they may have looked at making a gay person CEO a step too far for now. Same for many other traditional companies like GM or GE. I guess it's the Apples and the Googles that are more accepting of these things ofr now. The others will have to spend more time getting ready I guess.

Its' a hipster thing to announce your sexuality to the world. I could care less which way this idiot swings. God forbid if some one said I'm proud to be a Christian he would automatically become White nationalist. There is a difference between Liberalism and selling your culture, soul and religion blindly to a small non religious elite.
