I'm planning to buy an apartment in Islamabad / Rawalpindi area. I live in the UK and I'd like to visit Pakistan regularly with the kids. I want something newly built either in Islamabad (CDA) or in one of the major housing societies like Gulberg, DHA, Bahria etc.. If I can find one that's currently in pipeline and I can make a down payment and the rest in instalments that'd be ideal. I'm thinking when its not occupied (by myself or by my parents) then I can generate some income from it by listing it on airbnb etc..
What would you suggest and why? Thank you.

Good investment but make sure you have some sort of connections before hand, if you have a close relative who can look after it, and visit in once a while then it be fantastic. You certainly don't want someone doing kabza on it.

bro I have just spent 7 years in Pakistan. do not buy an apartment. buy a house for sure but not an apartment. A lot of bad things happen in apartment blocks and not ideal for families. Additionally, issues with neighbours such as noise, maintenance etc.

OK seems like I should stay away from apartments. Do you think even apartments in upper class societies like Bahria, Gulberg etc.. are a big no no?
If that's the case then what housing society would you suggest for buying plot and building a house? Or any particular area in Islamabad? I just want a safe and secure place whenever I visit Pakistan with my kids. I want them to have a positive experience over there.
I've my dad and couple of uncles I can trust so that's not an issue. I also have a family member who's in the trade so he'll be the one I'll rely on whatever I buy.

I am thinking of doing the same. For us British Pakistani's Islamabad is perfect. From there we are also within reach of our native districts.

Try f-10 area, flats there are of mixed prices from 1cr to 2.5/3cr depending on facilities.
Zarkon heights is also a possiblity.
G13 skyline as someone posted.
If you can adjust a bit further out from main Islamabad and can live in "Islamabad" then u can look at those flat on main gt road which are close to dha/bahria town.

I'm just worried we don't turn it into Chavistan.

It is perfect though. It's clean, modern, like you said located close to most of our ancestoral homes, has all the brands and city life most of us here are used to.

In a few years time, once i've paid off my extension, i want to do the same thing. Get a small house or apartment, nothing fancy, 3-4 bedrooms, something to come home too. AJK is nice, but if i ever moved back it wouldn't be to the pind.

i found a very old article saying the utlities there are not in place.

Has this now changed?
Roads are carpeted, lights are on, electricity is underground (almost no electric and gas load-shedding), parks are being developed

Currently, water supply issue is not fully resolved but everything is fine in the sector
