Anza Draws First Blood In Kargil

lol, I cannot understand that how Anza work on that. IF we really wann come in your territory, than we just need to scramble jet, they will fly at altitute of 10km and Anza can not do any thing .

And will you carry out your attacks from that altitude.....besides Anza is not the sole defence system in Pakistan armoury.
Besides we all know what did happen when Indian aircraft intruded into Pakistan air space in 2008.....but that's another story. !!

So you still believe in this nobody knew about the operation except Musharraf fairy tale?

Really?

Nawaz was at home eating paya and had no clue? :disagree:

How do you know what I believe?
Have I disclosed it to you are you in the habit of making the "black" assumption if someone disagrees with your "white"?

yup anza is a Battle proven mature system not a Tested this and successfull and we are adding more to it type deal

Indians are in pain after they were reminded what happened in Kargil war & they are trying to find their way out of this with massive lies & propaganda.

Everybody knew about it & Pak Army was doing very well in Kargil war but Mian Sahib screwed everything up by running to US & surrendering in table talks.

It was India who went running crying to US begging for help then puppet Mina sahib he surrendered. Only GOD knows how much Mian accepted.

i have observed this statement many times from you.

1)Why we will be in pain? and how mian saab screwed it? care to explain. He was the guy who was pressurized by mushy to save pakistan.
2)I am very sorry for you...india never begged to U.S. Clinton asked vajpayee about his next step and he said to open the international border if it does not stop.
Even he said that we will wipe our pakistan if you threaten with nukes.

FYI,You were left with 4 days of fuel when IN blocked your lanes. It was claimed by sharif and even your military officers other than mushy say this.

its your wish to blv mushy or resto f the military officers or journalist who did interview of atleast 250 officers.
i think those 250 are lying and mushy is truthful.

But perhaps why Anza saw action in kargil was because of logistics. Moving high end SAM batteries upon mountain tops would have been a logistic nightmare. MANPADs are an obvious choice since
1-They are portable and thus can be deployed in greater numbers on short notice.
2-Because Attack aircraft are often hindered by a)complications in target sighting and targeting b) variable nature of terrain complicating high altitude safe attack.

The AN-32 Incident of air violation.

New Delhi, 22 March 2002

On 19th February an AN 32 flown by Air Marshal Vinod K Bhatia, to inaugurate the extended Kargil airfield, crossed the LOC for some 11 minutes and was hit by an ANZA missile fired by the Pakistanis. The aircraft lost one engine but successfully landed at Leh airfield on the other engine.
Air Marshal M S Sekhon (who has since resigned) carried out a Board of Inquiry into this incident and media reports say that both former Air Chiefs S K Kaul and Sareen have dubbed it a minor incident. On the other hand IDC believes that an aircraft flying 12 Km away from its path, that too over enemy territory, when both sides are in a mobilised state cannot be brushed off as a minor matter.
Air Marshal V K Bhatia reportedly said that he was only the co-pilot and put the blame squarely on the Navigator and the Pilot a Wing Commander.

Wings Of Shame

The sacking of Sekhon has had a fallout on the court of inquiry that he had been asked to conduct by Krishnaswamy before the Badal letter was made public. Sekhon was probing a February 19 incident in which an AN-32 transporter plane piloted by Bhatia had crossed the loc after being hit by a Pakistani missile while trying to land in Kargil. While Bhatia was piloting the aircraft, Flt-Lieutenant V. Awasthy was navigating it. Wing Commander S.C. Chafekar was the co-pilot. It seems that while making a landing approach towards Kargil airport Bhatia flew too close to the loc and was hit by a Pakistani missile. In order to steady the aircraft and gain height, Bhatia went across the loc over the Batalik sector. He was subsequently able to land at Leh airport. With both India and Pakistan involved in a military stand-off, the consequences would have been disastrous had the plane got downed in "enemy territory".

In the inquiry report submitted to Air Headquarters on March 8, Sekhon has confirmed that Bhatia had indeed crossed the loc and been hit by a Pakistani missile. In his defence, Bhatia has raised objections on the inquiry being conducted by an air officer junior to him in service. Bhatia has also pointed out that it was the duty of Awasthy and Chafekar to inform him that he was not going in the direction of the Kargil airport but the loc. Army chief General S. Padmanabhan personally checked the facts at Kargil later. The army confirmed that the aircraft was hit by an enemy missile and not by "friendly fire."

Well lay it out for us, then.

I am all ears.

Indeed, but for some attack positions (like strafing the targets) aircraft has to come close on the target. These are the situations where MANPADs come handy. Kargil terrain is of such nature that high altitude bombing would have little impact or because IAF pilots were not expecting MANPADs (or even underestimating them). AFIAK, soon after this even IAF fleet did maintain a safe height.

Generally countermeasures are all consolidated under the umbrella of ECM. But technically ECM focuses on disturbing and manipulating the signals emitted by active devices (like radars). The purpose is to "misinform" the source of signal about the location of aircraft so that it may loose its guidance. IR, on the other hand, is a passive seeker since it uses optical warhead. Since passive seeker works by absorbing rather than emitting so the countermeasures for such systems are not technically called electronic counter measure.

A lot of bombing was conducted at night sorties which even 800 metres above the target.

The decisive bombing on tiger hill was done by Mirages on broad day light...closed in, in front of IA who surrounded the hill.

If fact Anzas were early successful because IAF had no targets on sight and it went for find and destroy mission. So the low flying jets got the hit. After the initial problems, they changed the tactics as the reco. missions will fly higher.
