Any replacement for Bangladesh A-5 jets?

SU-30 or SU-34 would be very nice.

SU-30:

The Sukhoi Su-30 (NATO reporting name Flanker-C) is a twin-engine, two-seat military aircraft developed by Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation. It is a multirole fighter for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface deep interdiction missions.

SU-34:

The Sukhoi Su-34 (export designation: Su-32, NATO reporting name: Fullback) is an advanced Russian 2-seat fighter-bomber. It is intended to eventually replace the Sukhoi Su-24 and the Tupolev Tu-22M.

If we have money, we might buy some European or American aircraft.

One thing we need to be careful about is how the Bangladesh government handles such expensive procurements. The MIG-29 deal some time back was a very controversial one. The tax-payer winded up paying more than the actual price of the aircraft.

Well, the Sukhois are a matter of choice definitely.
However if European aircraft are also to be considered for acquisition; then the Gripen would be a good choice. And it will have the blessings of USA who have designed the engine for it. That aircraft is a good "bang for the buck".

. .
Bangladesh will replace those a-5 as they are no longer in production... hopefully are goverment will get su-30 or su-35 but to be honest BAF will most likely purchase su-30 or jf-17 remember guys are budget is low... we may push it up a notch to purchase such aircraft including gripen hopefully not another 2 squadron of mig-29s -_- bangladesh economy has to be good to purchase such aircraft even the above named aircrafts, we have tremendous amount of growth potential but there is no way of doing that unless that greedy b i t c h is out of power.

It is better to focus on our economy first. From 2011 onwards, there will be hard times with crisis in parts of the Middle East and the vile system we have. We don't need another money making opportunity for our greedy politicians as in the MIG-29 deal!

Eurofighter Typhoon.

All depends on the Budget.

Defence and economy goes hand in hand. All the tiger economies have strong defence and their defence did not hinder their growth rather helped them.

Its a over priced fighter and does not worth the money. Su series can take on Euro Fighter any days in anywhere with 1/3 rd the money.

That is so true and that is why I suggested the aircraft Eurotyphoon.

It is good!

Go for su 27 customise them to your need get a soft loan from russians and you have a great fighter with you

I think BAF should go for Aero L-159. It is light, it has western technology and Bangladesh already have infrastructure to support it. And they can also field it relatively larger number.

If you want an aircraft for free/soft loan which can be waived off, get jf 17 or j10 , just tell Chinese that BD in anti-India... But if you are seriously looking to purchase an aircraft, get Su 30/35 series or F/A 18 SH

Boy you guys are all talking as if there is some intention of replacing the A5s when they FINALLY decay of rust. OK lets say we have such a requirement, do we have the budget? OK now lets say the gov sanctions such funds (doubtful).

Then what are our options?

JF17: The AL gov won't buy anything with a pakistani conection, what ever the price or source.
LCA: far too early (won't be on the market til 2015/2017 if ever) even if we wanted them, or they would be offered and believe me the Air Force would reject it out of hand (no indian purchace policy).
Mig 29/35: Never buy russian again, really low purchase price but they then sc**w you with costs latter.
Su 30/Su ??: very complex systems, same sale support as the migs.

So what are we left with? J10/F16 (new build and/or refirb)/F18 (refirb)/gripen, not a lot of options for the gov. So my guess is they will sit on this as long as they can.
