Dalai Lama is a monk, Sri Lankans have that respect but nothing know about Tibet issue or worrying about unrelated issues to us.

Sri Lanka was the one of the country who had some thoughts to become a member when forming the ASEAN in 1960s but somehow we missed it. Some say Sri Lanka is trying to become a member of ASEAN again but no official comment from our government side yet. I don't think it is possible at this moment either.

Nope. we are isolated island over thousand and thousand years.

Sinhalese are basically Kalingans, and Tamil there are well.... Tamils. Basically an Indian offshoot.

I visited SL 4 years back on a tourist trip. It's a smaller, a much cleaner, less densely populated, 'follow the rules type' version of India, but Indian culture nonetheless.
